Lolita by Nabokov Vladimir Book Review

This book is for someone with an iron belly. It does not attempt  to glamorize the adult child romance between Lolita and Humbert. As a matter of fact, it shows it with all of its disgusting lights. This books critiques widows who bring strange men into their house. In the 60s, it was not too uncommon for widows to bring random men into their homes. They are so blind by love that they do not see that their lover is after their little girls. Lolita's mother love Humber, however Humber wanted Lolita. You know, the book was crudely hilarious into the second part the book. Then, the book stopped being funny.

For most of the book, Humbert explained his desires for Lolita and how he tried to restrained them. The climax of the story was when he picked up Dolores, aka Lolita, from summer camp, and took her to a cheap motel... Her mother had sent her to summer camp to be alone with Humbert. Humbert really was not humored about this. Anyhow, a lot of crazy , depraved things occur. It is more of a warning to mothers not to trust the random men they let into their houses. Needless to say, Humbert is writing Lolita is a confession. He kinda killed someone.

Nabokov,Vladimir,Lolita

This book was really quite over the top. Nabokov wrote this while exiled in the US. He left Russia running away from the Communist. During the 60s, the United States was going through a puritan streak. The Republicans banned everything hot or bloody. Even graphic novels were forced to down grade to PG. Anyhow, the only guy crazy enough to publish this book was Hue Hefner. He even made it into a movie. Also the Italians. Its a mystery how a Catholic country ever made a movie out of Lolita. People where crazy during the 60s. I suppose it had something do with all that Pot. Then again, Vatican II was going on during the time.

The book is really graphic, but not in a disgusting exaggerated fashion. The purpose of the book is not to make you feel hot. It simply shows you a very disturbing story. Nabokov was just doing a social critique. He sought to break all the social taboos. He shattered the Happy ville illusion. Humbert represents the elite upper class, who had enough money to get away with everything. In any case, Lolita deserves 5 star rating. A word of warning, it is rated PG 30. Seriously folks, read this with an open mind. It is a real mess. Well, I advice you that you all do not read it. Just in case...
