Candide by Voltaire Book Review

This book is quite the hilarious satire to European values. However, Voltaire wanted to make fun, in specific, of the ideology of Plangloss. During his time, there was philosophy that all is for the best. Voltaire uses Candide to disprove this belief. He keeps throwing his Candide into more ridiculous situations. Eventually, Candide discards this ideology. He got rid of it after almost drowning, almost being hanged, mutilated and destroyed. Voltaire also used this book to throw rocks at the Inquisition and the colonization missions in America. It turns out that all is for the best , only in El Dorado. This basically means that this ideology only applies to isolated rich countries. When you are away from bad people, your society is allowed to flourish. Then again, El Dorado does not really exist. Saying that all is best in El Dorado, is no different than saying that all is for the best, in Heaven. In any case, this lovely book is 5 star worthy. It is still hilarious even in this day and age.
