Joan of Arc by Mark Twain Novel Review

Today, I am going to rate Joan of Arc. This is the last 5 star worthy ahistorical fiction novel by Mark Twain. This novel is close to the original historical life of Joan of Arc. There are a few additions here and there. The Paladin and some of Joan's friends where additions. Her dwarf bodyguard I think really existed in real life. I am certain that the trails of Joan of Arc are 100% real. There was a lot of cruelty in the last chapters. All the additional friends did not survive the last battle. It was really depressing.

Like all of Mark Twain's historical comedies, the book stops being funny around the middle. It is still a great story. However, don't expect to laugh too much during Joan of Arc's inquisition trails. Plus, being burned as a witch is no laughing matter. What is interesting is that this unlearned girl managed to surf all those questions. The British Inquisition was no able to dig up an excuse to burn her as a heretic.

I noticed that Mark Twain did a lot of research for this novel. He did went a little crazy with the details here and there. Still, he sure knows how to narrate a bloody battle. I do like the way Joan of Arc was portrayed. They usually show her as a crazy chick. As for Mark Twain, he made her into a sweet blonde maiden, with a sword. Truly, this ahistorical comedy novel deserves 5 star rating.
