Monsignor Quixote by Graham Greene Book Review
I never got the British sense of humor. If you can call it humor. Anyhow, Cervantes killed Don Quixote to save him from popular media. Had he lived there would have still played with this character till the end of times. For this reason, all Good writers slay their characters at the end of the book. Despite slaying Don Quixote some writers like Mark Twain or Greene played with this character. Twain's Tom Sawyer was his don Quixote as a child. It seems he did not understood the book.
Then again, I have not ran into a English speaking educated person who truly understood Don Quixote. I suppose certain lessons where lost in translation. Its not too uncommon in translation that the translator edits or omits certain things. It happened to the Bible and it happened to Don Quixote. In any case, Monsignor Quixote is supposedly a descendant of Don Quixote. The problem is that Don Quixote never had any children. He never even spoke in Person with "Dulcinea".
Anyhow, Monsignor Quixote's Sancho Panza was communist guy. I think Graham Greene was traumatized by a communist at a certain point. He never portrays them in a positive light. Despite these oddities here and there, Monsignor Quixote is a good book to read. Its not too hilarious. Then again, I don't get British humor. Its message is... is... I forget. Greene could not get past the dichotomy of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. Frankly, I think Greene simply wanted to throw more rocks at the communists. Anyhow, Phi Stars recommends this book. Monsignor Quixote deserves 5 star rating.
