Subversive Beauty by Luis Royo
This is the second to last album of Luis Royo worth mentioning. Now that I think of it, the others are just fillers. Plus, I am not too fond of featuring unfinished work. Not that I hate character designs in the making, however, 5 stars is for the best work of the best artist. As the title shows, this album has a lot of cute girls. I looked through them and picked out the ones that were 5 star worthy.
Now that the preliminaries are over, lets get this show on the road. The first runner up has the loveliest play of silvery colors. Its neat how the blood and the red hair of the maiden stands out against such a shinny background. It is truly something else. The shoulder plates on this warrior maiden are really something else.
The next amassing fantasy picture shows a vampire couple. Her lover is showing her a fancy scary head ornament. I guess is that's her dowry gift from her new husband. Considering that she has been bitten, yet she has blood on her lips, it is a clear cut sign that she has become that vampire's wife. In any case, this cute couple deserves 5 star rating.
Another odd paring. Its nice seeing how the picture revolves around the predominant blue hue in the background. It is reflected off on the plates of the cyborg next to the maiden. Her blue tattoos and earrings are really neat. In any case, this gunner maiden deserves 5 star rating.
Here we have another odd couple. Both the demon and his bride have the same intense silver eyes. Both are looking at the viewer. Its cute how the demon is putting a black cloak over the bare shoulders of his girls. There is a lovely intimate grace about their movements. In any case, this lovely dark fantasy couple deserve 5 star rating.
Another vampire couple. You see that wound on the male one... That's called a vampire baptism. After he drinks his girl's blood, then he offers his to her. Then she is bounded to him forever and ever. Thus, when she dies she will resurrect as a vampire. What I like best are the creepy tattoos on the body of the male vampire. Super neat, 5 stars for Luis Royo.
Those are some pretty silver eyes... Luis Royo has always been sublime in his rendering of metal. Look at how realistic the metal plates look on the arm, gloves, forehead and crown of this warrior maiden. The way they are pressed against her skin... strange, almost rust like. Perhaps, a bit bloody too... In any case, Luis Royo deserves 5 stars for this Subversive Beauty.
How lovely, this maiden is just plain beautiful. Look at the flowy drapery. Its pretty neat her sharp silver claws. Its a bummer how she uses her blades with nail weapons like that. In any case, this one deserves 5 star rating.
Another pretty maiden. Those dragon tattoos on her belly are pretty cool. I always wonder about those strange metal plate ornaments. Do they exist in the real world? They do look cool, but painful to wear. In any case, Luis Royo deserves 5 star rating.
Neat, twin serpents dragon tattoos. Her hand bracelets have quite the pretty unique patters. All the silver here is so pretty and shinny. Did you notice that the fire breathed by the dragon is shaped by the metal ornaments on her back? Really pretty. 5 star rating for this piece of work.
The next one is simple enough. Here we have a pretty maiden about to take on an army of robots. She (like the ones we seen before) has a dragon tattoo. On one of her legs, we can see a rune circle tattoo. Perhaps such a craft is meant to give her super speed. Then again, those tattoos do make a pretty decoration. 5 star for Luis Royo.
Above we have another lovely redheaded maiden. This one we can see holding up a blade (though we can only discern the hilt). The flowing wind works pretty well to give an overall epic effect to this piece. She too has lovely tattoos. 5 stars.
Above, an angel girl is looking down at her kill. There is a disdainful,quite repose about her. She kinda reminds me of the traditional David and Goliath paring. Like David, this angel girl is holding up the head of the demon. One can see his huge bulk stretched out on the floor. This once mighty foe is no more. 5 stars for Luis Royo.
Next on the list we have a cute Asian Assassin. She is wearing the traditional black hood of their kind. Plus, she has a lovely shinny blade. As is usual of such a montage, Royo marks a single stream of red tears down her cheek. Methinks its not her blood but that of her adversary. Her face is too cold for such a display of weakness. In any case, methinks I will "methinks" for now on. 5 stars for this pretty lil number.
Those are some cool metal wings. I recently heard that such wings was akin to the Nephilims. They are these weird creatures that showed up in the Bible's first census. It was portrayed as an official document recording everything that belong to the Isrealites in Canaan. The problem was that they counted angels, nephilims and giants like we count our Latinos, asians and African Americans. Ok... so this pretty maiden is a Nephilim. She also has those weird plate ornaments typical of Royo. Other than that (and the tattoos), I have no more comments on this piece. 5 stars for this pretty Nephilim. 5 stars.
You know, this is the second time I see such hornet like blade coming from the gloves. It is pretty shinny... The maiden herself looks mighty handsome. 5 stars... God, I am so sleepy.
Another pretty maiden, Luis Royo has quite the lovely manner of creating fancy tattoos. I do not know any other dark fantasy artist that executes tattoos so well. The swords are also pretty original. I think I seen her in some pictures further up. She does have the same white bangs. It any case, this one gets 5 star rating.
I noticed that in this album, silver is the predominant color. So much shinny silver. Look at her fine hair... very, yaw... nice. God, this class is so boring. I wanna nap. I can barely keep my eyes open. 5 stars.
You skin liberation to liberate others (what was I thinking when I wrote this line). I cannot keep myself from closing my eyes. Again a lovely shinny silver blade. You can almost see it shinning outside of the paper....zzzzz.....zzz
zzz...Is the class over? Its president's day everywhere but in FIU. It must be because the deans did not vote for Obama. Oh well, back to Luis Royo. zzz...shinny blade. 5 stars.
More, more, more blades. 5 stars.
I think I seen this one before. It was featured in the Spectrum 10 magazine. Spectrum is a magazine that features contemporary fantasy works. For the modest price of 50 bucks one can have the "chance" of having your work feature in the magazine. Most chances are that you will not be feature. If you ask me, it sounds like a big rip off. Then again, its good for getting exposure. However, I know one or two cheap ways to expose my work (a blog for instance or reddit). In any case, this feature is 5 star worthy. I can see why it was well receive.
Ok, this is the first sign of deep red color in this Subversive Beauty album. There is a blurred dragon in front of this maiden. You can see part of her attires colored red. Here too silver is the prime color. Yawn, I wanna go home and take a nap. 5 stars for nap time.
The next maiden is opening a random gate. She looks pretty cute with the three red colored garments on her. Its neat how the details guide the viewer toward her action. The picture is more refined around the open gate...zzz.....z.z.z.z.z.z.zzzz.z..zzzz..5..z...s..tazzrss.
Well, I finally got out of class. So, I am a bit more awake now...a bit lucid, too. Its a good thing this blog is almost over. However, I am of the habit that once I start something I see it through to the end. In any case, here we have another pretty maiden warrior. This one has some red stones as adornments. The one in the forehead is bleeding, showing that is newly encrusted into her flesh. I do not know who in their right mind would allow metal to be pressed down into their flesh. IT looks painful to wear. Plus, there is always the threat of gangrene looming about. In any case, this one deserves 5 star rating.
Again, the same metal plates encrusted into the skin. This time they have a bit more of a futuristic look about them. Ah, what a boring unproductive day it is. You can tell that I write this sporadically. Some parts of this blog are happy, other sleepy and others just plain moody. I am feeling moody at the moment...5 stars for Royo.
You know, the gray is a pretty easy color to handle. One only needs to worry about light and dark. With colors, complications begin to arise. See how easily Royo made a pretty neat dark fantasy picture. And that sword is ever so shinny. Ah, we are almost done...5 stars.
Last but not least, we have the front cover of the Subversive beauty album. I think this should have been the first but no matter. Here we see all the elements that show up within the album. We have the dragon tattoos, the silver, the blades and the encrusted plates on her shoulder. For general purposes, it works pretty well. Alas, I must finish for my class begins in 9 minutes. Aw....!!!! I don't wanna go! 5 stars and good day to you all enjoying president's day at home.
