The Origin of Monsters : Elf
Well, people might not imagine that elves fall into the Category of monsters. Movies like lord of the rings and books like Dragonlance have done a great deal to eradicate the original form of the elves. However, originally elves where beautiful beings that lured humans to their death. Thus, I shall unmasked this beings and show them for what they truly are. This becomes rather apparent in the short story by Becquer Called the Green eyes. In this story a human boy falls in love with a Elvin maiden but she draws him to her lake and drowns him.
These are among many crimes against humanity that the Elvin raze was infamous for in the past. In addition, a scene in the lord the rings that people usually ignore is when the elf girl tells Frodo (or the hobbit) that her kiss brings death. In addition, in the legends of kind author Merlin once fell in love with an elven maiden. However, this maiden used the forest to try to trap Merlin and slay him. It took a lot of fortitude but Merlin managed to fight off his attraction to the elf and barely escape with her life.
Another instance of elf doing violence to humans appears in the Game Radiata Stories. This story does a better depiction of the light elves. In this game, the good and pure elves have been constantly warring with the humans. The story goes that due to the mixing of elf and human blood the magic of the world was unbalanced giving way to Algandars plague (a pandemic of airborne Rabies) . Humans and elves cannot truly co-exist. In both endings,either the humans raze is annihilated or all the elves and the dragons perish.
A side note regarding the Elvin from this game. It seems people tend to fuse the concept of elves and fairies. Fairies originate from Anglo-Saxon mythology. The original king Arthur was the son of a fairy. Fairies are born of flowers and are associated with butterflies not trees. The pixie dust is like the pollen of the flowers. They are neutral to humans sometimes helping other times they kidnap the naughty children of the humans. However, both sorta mixed and combine into one solid king author and Merlin legend when the Anglo-Saxons from Britain came into contact with the Normans from France and Greenland. Anyhow, both Merlin and Arthur are separate myths from two different civilizations. For you see Merlin is half elfin and Author is a fairy.
Another sublime example appears in the movie Hell boy: The golden Army. In this movie, the elves have been reduced to live under the Brooklyn Bridge. They originally had triumph over the humans using their super robots but the Elvin king felt guilty about beating up weaklings. Thus, he swore not to use them again. In modern days, his son killed him and was planning to summon the golden army to slay the humans. He hoped in doing so to restore Earth to its pristine and beautiful pure form.
Well , I have successfully unmasked the pure pristine modern version of the elven raze. Now let us go to the root of the concept. The medieval elves are a mixture of the Norman original elves and the Greek Nymphs.Frankly, the way that the elves behave and their chose dwelling mimics a lot the habits of the nymphs. For example, some become trees like the Daphne maiden that was chased by Apollo and thus turned into a laurel tree.
The Becquer Elf of the Green Eyes has the characteristic of the water nymphs that Pan (the faun God of Chaos and best friend of Bacchus)used to like chasing after. The fact that drowned the kid has to do with the curse that Echo gave to Narcissus because he ignored her.
The light elves where held in high esteem by Odin. They provided an esthetically pleasing contrast from the she-wolves maidens that inhabited within the mountain of Valhalla. Deep underground they held all the bad woman that live with the queen of Ice. But that is beside the point. The light elves where all beautiful maidens whose hair and looks followed the seasonal changes of foliage from the trees at the Forest of Spirits. They were for the most part immortal. If their oak tree was cut they died. However, the trees in the Forest of Spirits lasted for millenniums at a time. Well this forest surrounded the mountain that led up to Valhalla. Odin himself was a half elf. His mother was a Frost giant and his father was the only male light elf. So it is obvious that the light elf got privileged positions in Midgar.
The other kind, the dark elves where as ugly as sin. These Night elves as they where originally called live at the borders of Niberheilm between the land of the Dwarfs and the land of Brams ruler of the dead. Anyhow,these elves are male. Well the story goes that a crazy dwarf (who had a magic ring that he made from gold he stole from Rythme) got an army of frost giants and conquered Niberheilm. So afterward he wanted to become a god and marry the Valkyrie of his dreams. The dark elves always got mistreated by Odin so they sent with the Dwarf dark elf Eijenjars(exported from Valhalla). We’ll the story ended in tragedy but the point is that dark elves are evil.
Well both kinds never showed much love for the human race.
The looks of the elves are another issue. The green eyes and the blond hair are a common trait among the Norman barbarians. See the fine nose and their closeness to nature. They are in essence idealized Norman citizens. The dark elves however, ugly dark and hideous looking represent the invaders from Italy (the Romans). This should come as no surprise considering the other manifestation of the Norman’s hatred toward the Romans (that of the werewolves).
The pointy ears were a defining factor between the humans and nonhuman. You see Odin and Gods had prominent pointy ears. They used those fancy ears to hear the prayers of their worshipers. Since the origin of Odin was that of an elf it makes sense that the elf would obtain godlike attributes in order to standardize the god like look.
The name elf is derived from ylfe word. It appears often in many songs regarding Odin’s epic travels around the world including his infamous visit the head frost giant to discuss on future battles against the humans.
Well, ladies and gentlemen this is the origin of elves.now You will think twice before saying ooh there goes the cute elf chick.
