5 Audioslave Songs that are 5 Star Worthy

So yeah, I was kinda bored so I decided blog about some songs that I like. I am not too familiar with the band itself. The first song that I heard of this band was "Like a Stone". At that time, I was not aware that this song belonged to this band. Heck, I could hardly understand the lyrics. I was young and innocent and I did not get a word of English. In any case, the only line that stayed in the back of my mind was " I will wait for you there, Like a Stone...".

Sometime passed and I finally ran out of audiobooks to hear (yeah, I am that big of a nerd). Thus, I started flipping through youtube, looking for some good background music to keep me interested in my work. I have this thing, that I get bored of songs really easily. That day,  I had just gotten bored of all the bands that I was familiar with. Then ,out of the blue, that line came to my mind. I searched for it and Audioslave came up. After hearing "Like a Stone" for an hour or two, I got bored and decided to browse the other works of Audioslave. So yeah, these are the songs of Audioslave that I listen to the most.

Like a Stone

On a cobweb afternoon
In a room full of emptiness
By a freeway I confess
I was lost in the pages
Of a book full of death
Reading how we'll die alone
And if we're good
we'll lay to rest
Anywhere we want to go

(Chorus)
In your house
I Long to be
Room by room patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there Alone

On my deathbed I will pray
To the gods and then angels
Like a pagan to anyone
Who will take me to heaven
To a place I recall
I was there so long ago
The sky was bruised
The wine was bled
And there you led me on

(Chorus)

Alone

And on I read
Until the day was gone
And I sat in regret
Of all the things I've done
For all that I've blessed
And all that I've wronged
In dreams until my death
I will wander on

(Chorus )

Comments :

You know, now that I understand this song better, I think it's a bit depressing. Here is a poor guy waiting for a girl and he feels very lonely. The whole scenery description is quite melancholic in an urban sort of way. Life in the city must be a real pain. Plus, it must suck to live near a highway (because of all the noise). What I really like, aside from the chorus, is the solo. That Tom Morello really is something else. This is one of his simpler Solos (in comparison to some of the other weird things he has comes up with). Over all, it is a pretty decent song to hear, if you are feeling a bit moody.

Show Me how to Live

In with the early dawn
moving right along
i couldn't buy an eyeful of sleep
and in the aching night
under satellite
i was not received
with the stolen parts
a telephone in my heart
someone get me a priest
to put my mind to bed
this ringing in my head
is this a cure or is this a disease

nail in my hand from my creator
you gave me life now
show me how to live

nail in my hand from my creator
you gave me life now
show me how to live

in the afterbirth
on the quiet earth
let this things remind you
you thought you made a man
you better think again
before my road defines you

nail in my hand from my creator
you gave me life now show me how to live

nail in my hand from my creator
you gave me life now
show me how to live

and in your waiting hands
i will land
and roll out of my skin
and in your final hours i will stand
ready to begin
ready to begin
ready to begin
ready to begin

nail in my hand from my creator
you gave me life now
show me how to live

This is one hyped up song. The lyrics are a bit nonsensical... The ideas do not connect well. At least, I do not know whether the song is about Jesus, insomnia, or the afterlife. Frankly, I listen to this song because of the chorus. Its incredible... the rest not so much.

Cochine

Well I been watchin'
while you been coughin
i've been drinking life
while you been nauseous
and so i drink to health
while you kill yourself
and i got just one thing
that i can offer

go and save yourself
take it out on me
go and and save yourself
take it out on me yea

well i'm not a martyr
i'm not a prophet
and i won't preach to you
but heres a caution
you better understand
that i won't hold your hand
but if it helps you mend
then i won't stop it

go and save yourself
take it out on me
go and save yourself
take it out on me
go and save yourself
take it out on me
go and save yourself
take it out on me yea

go if you want
and i'll see you in the bottom
where you crawl
on my skin
and put the blame on me
so you don't feel a thing

go and save yourself
take it out on me
go and save yourself
take it out on me
go and save yourself
take it out on me
go and save yourself
take it out on me yea

Neat, song, At least this Cochise makes some sense. The title has such an obscure word. It means kitchen, plus is the name of a university for culinary arts. What a lovely name for song about self destruction.

Explorer

Met a man locked away
for things he hadn't done
innocence on a ball and chain
never feel the sun
a grin on his face
roses in his hands
but when he smiled at me
i could understand

if you're free you'll never see the walls
if you're head is clear you'll never freefall
if you're out right you never fear the wrong
if you're head is high you never fear at all

there was a daughter of a man
took his life too young
she swore she'd never do those things
then did just what he'd done
and a boy whose gone insane
voices in his head
no one knows what they say
now his mothers dead

if you're free you'll never see the walls
if you're head is clear you'll never freefall
if you're right you never fear the wrong
if you're head is high you never fear at all

cuttin me down
cuttin me down

there was a man who had a face
it looked alot like me
i saw him in the mirror and i
fought him in the street
then when he turned away i
shot him in the head
then i came to realize i had killed myself

if you're free you'll never see the walls
if you're head is clear you'll never freefall
if you're right you never fear the wrong
if you're head is high you never fear

cuttin me down and
cuttin me down

Explorer. interesting title. I like a lot the images conjured up by the song. In the first verse we hear of an innocent man in jail. In the last part, we hear about suicide. Overall, this song is about internal personal struggles. I like how, Audioslave builds up for the last section on suicide. Pretty neat.

Hypnotize

well if you set your mind to fallin
i know that you can
you got everything you wanted
you've done everything you plan
so let me make an offer
i'm only trying to help
you can make your loan
just a little longer
all you got to do is share the wealth

oh no don't you keep your
good luck to yourself
oh no don't you keep your
good luck to yourself

i know you've got problems
i see it in your eyes
but if you want to live
to see the morning
leave it up to your brother
or you get a surprise

oh no don't you keep your
good luck to yourself
oh no don't you keep your
good luck to yourself

yea
yea
oh
yea
yea
yea
oh

well it's time to see
you've got to give or your gonna see
hey it's time to see
you've got to give if you wanna believe
you will breathe
it's time to see

(oh no don't you keep your
good luck to yourself)
(oh no don't you keep your
good luck to yourself)

I think this last song is about loans or gambling. Frankly, I first understood " don't keep your good looks to yourself". I guess luck makes more sense than looks. I like the way the chorus and the verse rhythms compliment each other. The solo is just plain weird... I do not know what to make of it.So that is all I have to say about Audioslave. 5 stars tata.
