Mothers Day: Top ten  Anime Mothers

This post is inspired in my own mother. She is the best mother out there because not only is she my mama but also my friend. It is for this reason that for the coming mother’s day I will blog about the top ten anime mothers.  Mothers in anime are noted for their self sacrifice and devotion. It is thanks to them that the main characters are able to grow into a worthy person.  The first eight mothers where easier enough to choose however the last two gave me a bit of a headache. I had spent a lot of time deciding between Ifalna and Rem. But for reasons that I will explain later on Ifalna lost her spot at number one. But it was a tight race nonetheless.

10-Bulma Mother of Trunks

For slot number 10, we have Trunks mother. She invented atime machine to allow her son to travel back and time and warn the DBZ characters about the impeding danger of Cell. She send her own son to danger in order to prevent him from living in a terrible world where Cell exists.  When he also appeared the first time in the past she was at first shocked. Slowly her future son grew on her and she treated him in the same way she treated baby Trunks. She has won slot number ten due to her weird relationship with her son.

 

9-Kagome’s Mama

Kagome’s mother is another great mother. She lets her lil 15year old daughter go off to god knows where to fight demons. She always has faith that Kagome will always come home and always gently reminds her to be careful.  While Kagome is away she takes great pain to make things easier for her daughter. This is most noted in the scene where she is fixing the seat of her bike so Kagome might use hers and leave the other in the past. She is always nice and never yells and she always has a kindly disposition. She truly is quite the pleasant mother and thus has secured slot number nine.

8-Hakufu’s Mother Goei

Hakufu’s mother is a bit of a modern mom. She is still quite pretty and she tends to flirt with younger boys. This flirting however serves another purpose. Thanks to one of her lil games her daughter Hakufu did not awake. She worked really hard to protect her daughter from the fate she had inherited from her sacred bead. It was her destiny to die young. Goei tried hard to train the girl while keeping her destiny a secret to keep her mind at ease. As her guardian she chose her cousin, who like Hakufu was trained in martial arts. For her desperate fight against destiny Goei has earned slot number eight.

7-Tohru’s mother Kyoko

Tohru’s mother was really something else. Though they were poor she tried to make the best out of the situation. She always tried to makes things pleasant for her daughter. Not only was she the mama of Tohru but she was also her best friend. She also got along well with Tohru’s friend. When she died in a car crash Tohru was left all alone. She was the single support for her daughter and thus Tohru was forced to fend for herself. Even after her death Tohru remember her with love in her hearth.  It is because of the warm feelings she inspired both in life and in death .Kyoko has secured slot number seven.

6- Sailor Moon’s mother Queen Serenity

Sailor moon’s mama ,Queen Serenity, only appeared once in a flashback. I am not talking about her current human mother. I am speaking of the queen of the moon. During the good old days, Serenity was just like any regular queen. She applauds and celebrated Sailor moon’s romance with the human that would later become tuxedo mask. When the evil queen came she sacrificed her life in order to assure not only the safety of her daughter but of all the lunar people. She truly as a worthy queen and mother and thus deserves slot six.

5-Voltes 5 ’s mother Mitsuyo

The mother in slot five is from a super old anime movie (although I think they were the first five episodes all in a row)  that I am certain most of you do not remember . This mama was the wife of the creator of Voltes. After he was adopted by aliens , Mitsuyo was forced to raise her son along. Plus, she maintained the unit and trainer her son to pilot it unit. In a certain battle against a giant robot, Voltes was losing. Seeing that her son’ life was in danger she took and fighter jet and performed a desperate attack against the beast. She saved her son and the other pilots of Voltes. Truly her bravery was astounding, a true wife of a brilliant scientist and a devoted mother. It is for the above reason sshe has secured slot number five. (sorry about the obscure reference)

4– Ichigo’s Mother Masaki

Masaki is another special case. She was the light of her family. While she lived Ichigo was a happy normal boy. She had the power to make her son smile whenever she came in. Regardless of how often Ichigo lost in the dojo, he could always look upon his mother and smile. Her bravery in the face of unknown danger is also quite notorious. She could not see the grand fisher and yet she jumped out to save Ichigo who had jumped into the river. God knows how much this poor woman suffered at the hands of the invisible monster.All the while she was on top of Ichigo shielding him from the unknown. Truly for her self-sacrifice in the face the unknown, Masaki has earned slot number four.

3-Trisha Elric Mama of Ed and Al

Trisha Elric is quite a woman. She did her utmost to hide the pain of being away from Hoenheim. She single handily raised her two sons. Despite her illness, she worked hard in order to leave untouched all the money she ever received from Hoenhiem so that her sons would have some something to live on after she died. She was always kind to her two sons. She tried in a lovingly fashion to get her two sons to get along and take care of each other. Whenever they would fight she would ask gently for the main offender to make peace with his brother. She was the link that bonded both brothers together after she died. It is such a pity that the loved she inspired proved to be the doom of her two sons. For this her self sacrifice Trisha has secured slot number three.

2- Aeris Mother Ifalna.

Ifalna was the wife of professor Gast, the leader of the Jenovah project. After Gast discovered that Jenovah was not an ancient, in shame he fled toward the north where he met Ifalna. When Aeris was born Ifalna and Gast were discovered by Shinra and Hojo. He killed Professor Gast and took Aeris and Ifalna with him. In order to protect her daughter she subjected herself to whatever evil experiments that Hojo could think up. In time she was able to escape but died as a result.Although, she was dead she refused to return to the planet. She kept close to her daughter in spirit form guiding her along. She was the one who told her about the promise land and about the power of the white material. If it was not for Ifalna the world would not have been saved. It is such a pity that she could not protect her from Sephiroth, had she been alive you can be certain she would have intercepted Sephiroth’s weapon. But at least now mother and daughter are together in death. For her devotion to her daughter beyond death Ifalna has earned slot number two.

1-Rem: Vash the Stampedes adopted Mama

Even though Vash and Knives where not her sons she cared and protected them as if they where her own. When they first where discovered she was responsible for the saving of their lives. She was not shocked by the fact that Vash and Knives grew so quickly in less than a year. Instead, she accepted them as they were. She tried arduously to try to teach both kids morals. He view of life was that all deserved to live and no one had the right to decided who got to live and who got to die. She also believed that all life had the same value even those of criminals. One should strive to protect all lives. It washer lessons that turned Vash into the man he was. As for Knifes, none of her teachings worked. He chose to turn his back on humanity. Although she figured out that knifes was responsible for malfunctioning of the airship (and the death of the entire crew) she asked Vash to look after his brother. She sent them on their way while sacrificed her life to save all the spaceships. She was truly a wonderful woman who found the strength to love all, especially those two children that where neither her own or human. She is the perfect mother.The mother who embraces all alike. She is the mother that all mothers should aspire to become. All loving all embracing, incapable of holding a grudge.  And this, my friends concludes my mother’s day blog.
