One has to wonder what the author of this show was smoking when he created the concept of singing robots. I seen transforming robots. Animal Robots. Fusion Robots. Spirit Possessed robots. But never have I come accross a show that features "la boema" as a finishing blow. Well, unfortunately for the viewers the Rahxephon hardly sings for half the show. It starts by screeching like a bat. Then he goes berserk and howls at the moon (for some reason). Then he returns to screeching and yelling. Only around the end does his singing resemble singing. In his final form his tunderous voice would rival that of Placido Domingo. 





The pilots of these robots are called instrumentalist. Their role is to tune the world. This earth was invaded by aliens called mulians in an indeterminate period. It is up to the red blooded instrumentalist to defeat the blue blooded mulian invader. their central base of operation is Tokyo. For the regular humans that live inside their domain (aka Tokyo Jupiter) time passes much slower. The nature of the force field forced to mulians to craft an illusion in order to keep the humans trapped from wondering outside. They claimed that Tokyo was the last city on earth. With this lie they kept the humans inside Tokyo Jupiter wrapped around their fingers. From time to time one of those regular humans synchronizes with a mulian unit and thus he gains blue blood. Once that bond is forged it can never be broken.

The main character Ayato Kamina lives inside Tokyo Jupiter. One day an older woman tries to take him outside of Tokyo Jupiter. Her attack and those of her friends triggers a chain of events that leads Ayato to the discovery of Rahxephon. When his resonance with Rahxephon through Mishimima Reika caused Rahxephon to hatch from his shell. Now Ayato is the instrumentalist (or pilot) for the Rahxephon. He must use this robot now to defend the human race against the Mulian invaders.



The robot itself is based on Quetzalcoatl. The date of his final battle appears in the mayan calendar. Apparently, there have been some humans that have been waiting for the robot to tune the world for the last 1000s years. This tuning appears to be a recurrent cyclical event. However, the constant victory of blue over red has assured the continuation of this cycle. The world will continue out off tuned until the either the blue or red blooded humans triumph over the other. This epic battle will be decided by the instrumentalist of Rahxephon.
