London Olympics 2012 Men's Individual Sabre Review

Yesterday, I watched the live Men's Individual Sabre. I watched two battles of this game. The first fight was between R. Limardo Gascon vs S. Kelsey. I have a vague memory in the back of my mind. Four years ago, I watched the chicks finals of this event. For this reason, I think the girls are better, than the guys at the sabre. In any case, the sabre fights are livelier, than the foil. These men could not sit still. They where seriously aggressive. Needless to say ,the US guy S. Kelsey lost to Gascon. Kelsey's defensive style proved to be his undoing. When the time came for him to fight back, he could not parry the strokes of the opponents. He cannot attack and defend at the same time. Oh, well, regardless both gave a good fight. These men deserve 5 star rating.

The next fight is for bronze. Its a fight between S. Kelsey and Jung J. I noticed that Kelsey's blade is wider than Jung's sword. I suppose it has to do with offensive and defensive style. For most of the battle, Jung and Kelsey did double touches. They where literary an even match. Another thing that humored me was how both players kept aiming at the weak spots of the armors. These men literary wanted to rip each other apart. You know, for being a defensive player Kelsey is not good at defending. Jung is more of an offensive player. He keeps doing strange little ninja hops here and there. Well, both men are fighting for the bronze.

The game has finally tied. Now its the sudden death match. Believe it or not, both men kept giving double touches. Its an insane fight. Kelsey makes a grave error and Jung takes home the bronze. That Jung deserves his medal. He started screaming like a crazy chibi and jump hugged his coach. He then went to Kelsey and gave an extremely low bow. This bow acknowledges Kelsey as his superior. They then shook hands in a Western fashion. Kelsey was not too humored about loosing. However, South Korea deserved to win bronze. This country does not often win too many medals. In any case, this sabre fight deserves 5 star rating. It was truly really amusing. Almost as amusing as women's individual sabre.
