Blood+

The nature of Blood Plus is quite critic indeed. Part of this anime show is a remake more humane down to earth version of Blood the Last Vampire. This is one of such anime shows that are super major big company productions. within this anime show are very dangerous contemporary Japanese problems like the plight in Okinawa. These problems in modern day japan are only lightly alluded too and carefully masquerade in this bone chilling anime show. Over all this anime show is just as innocent as it is cruel.




The main character is modeled after the original blood the Last vampire Saya. However, this Saya is of a more frail delicate nature. She lacks the berserk of the other vampire hunter. Only when she is aiming for the kill does the same Blood shot eyes come to the surface. It seems to me that they split the primordial Saya into two personages. The delicate feminine student Saya is our main character. The devotee ot the cause of Slaying Chiropterans, the more serious Saya is Haji.

Other differentiations between old and new blood are the natures of the Chiropterans. In the older movie, they just happen to exist and Saya just happens to be the only one capable of killing them. The whole blood soaked sword was not an Issue in Blood. Here however, Saya has to shed her own blood over her samurai sword to slay the super soldier monsters that where created in the base of Okinawa.

This anime show alludes briefly in the beginning of Blood  plus the tensions that are mounting between the base officers and the citizens of Okinawa. Among other issues touched in Blood plus is the theme of human experimentation and nature vs nurture. This nature vs nurture theme is a very interesting sociological theme. It basically tries to resolve the ancient theory of whether evil is in the genes or if it is something we learn. In Blood plus, it seems to be the latter. Saya who was raised with love and care grew up to be a pretty decent human being. However, Diva who was always treated like a specimen, like she was not human, became a monster.

Thus in a way the twins Diva and Saya are the two faces of the same coin. Anyhow, the source of all evil in blood plus is Diva. Like a modern day Frankenstein she has been spreading her blood around creating disgusting man eating half breeds. This ties into another issue, which is the mixing of blood. In traditional Japanese culture, half breeds where see as a sign of decay in society. It is up to Saya (who bears a Japanese name) to fix the corruption spread by her sister. Thus, by shedding her blood she will purify the corruption spread by her sister.
