System of a Down Heavy Metal Band Review
The next amassing band is System of a Down. The first song I
heard from them was Toxicity. That song
was truly something else. Now, let’s discuss some of the history of this amassing Heavy Metal band, from South California. They came into being in 1994. Before becoming
System of a Down, the band was called Soil. It was formed by Serj Tankian,
Daron Malakian, and Shavo Odadjian and some other guys. After that band dissolved,
the trio formed System of the Down. The
name is taken from one of Malakian’s poem called “Victims of the Down”. They changed “Victims” to “Systems” to appeal
to a wither audience. Plus, they wanted to be alphabetically closer to their
favorite band, “Slayers”.
The band was finally completed by the recruitment of drummer
Ontronick “Andy” Khachaturian. Damn! Those are some strange names! Anyhow,
their debut album was called “Systems of a Down”. Nice intro album. Works well,
to introduce an album with the band’s name. Sorta to give the audiences a
general feel of the band’s style. Their singles
“Sugar” and “Spiders” became hits, only on the radio. Other than that, they
began their rise to fame by opening for their favorite Slayers band. However,
it was their second album, Toxicity, which helped them become number one in
Canada and the US.
These days, they still enjoy success over the radio. “Aerials”
and “Toxicity” are still played on rock radio stations. An interesting occurrence
was the banning “Chop Suey!” off all radio stations. It happened after 9/11. The
problem was the single line, “(I don't think you) trust in my self-righteous
suicide”. I heard that song; it had nothing political about it. Oh well, people
where kinda touchy after that attack. I suppose it cannot be helped. Well, back
to System of a Down. The band split up for quite a while after several
successful albums. They did get back
together in 2011 for a few concerts in the UK and Latin America. As for this
year, 2012, the band has some US tours schedule for august. Other than that, there is nothing worth
mentioning about System of a Down. I recommend this band. I actually like more
than just one or two songs of this band. In any case, this heavy metal band deserves 5 star rating.
