Bring Me to Life
How can you see into my eyes like open doors?
Leading you down into my core where I’ve become so numb
Without a soul my spirit's sleeping somewhere cold
until you find it there and lead it back home
(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I’ve become
now that I know what I’m without
you can't just leave me
breathe into me and make me real
bring me to life
(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I’ve become
Bring me to life
(I've been living a lie, there's nothing inside)
Bring me to life
frozen inside without your touch
Without your love, darling
only you are the life among the dead
Leading you down into my core where I’ve become so numb
Without a soul my spirit's sleeping somewhere cold
until you find it there and lead it back home
(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I’ve become
now that I know what I’m without
you can't just leave me
breathe into me and make me real
bring me to life
(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I’ve become
Bring me to life
(I've been living a lie, there's nothing inside)
Bring me to life
frozen inside without your touch
Without your love, darling
only you are the life among the dead
all this time I can't believe I couldn't see
kept in the dark but you were there in front of me
I’ve been sleeping a thousand years it seems
got to open my eyes to everything
Without a thought, without a voice, without a soul
don't let me die here
there must be something more
bring me to life
(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I’ve become
(Bring me to life)
I’ve been living a lie, there’s nothing inside
(Bring me to life)
Bring Me to Life Review
“Bring Me to Life” was written by Amy Lee, Ben Moody and
David Hodges. Three writers contributed to make this masterpiece. Amy Lee says that this song was inspired by
her relationship with her Husband, Josh Hartzler. The song is mostly sung by Amy Lee. Paul
McCoy was featured in the song to compliment Amy’s voice. The guitar works
pretty well. However, the solo is bit short.
Now let us dissect the lyrics of the song. The first stanza
talks about the voided life of the speaker or main character. This person is
dead and someone is reaching down to warm her void. The first line, in this
single, set the mood of all future Evanescence’s songs. The chorus goes on to
describe the feeling of being asleep. The speaker desires for the lover to
awaken her. In essence, the speaker wants to be brought to life. In this song,
sleep and death are interchangeable. She describes her voided life like being
asleep. She lives but she is not alive.
The “living a lie” line is nothing too far out there. It
appeals to the mask we all wear to fit into society. The speaker in the song
feels dead in this pretentious life. The love the speaker feels is the first
real emotion she has felt. Following, we enter the center of the song. The
center rhythm and tempo is different from the opening or the chorus. Here the
lover sings to the speaker. He did not realize the love he felt for the
speaker. The speaker response to this
remark with, “ I been sleeping for a thousand years”. This lil poetic exaggeration worked pretty
well. The song ends with a return to the choir, with some minor alterations
here and there. The overall theme is
love is the only thing that can save us from societies self imposed lies. Love is the only thing that is true and full
of life in this world. I think that is everything worth mentioning on “Bring Me
to Life”. This lovely song deserves 5
star rating.
