“Dream On” is the single of Aerosmith’s first album. This rock ballad opened the doors for Aerosmith.  In their Boston home, “Dream On” remained number one for more than a year. Even today, this classical rock song still remains extremely popular.  Now, let us dissect this wonderful ballad. Over all, this song is not too hard to understand. Aerosmith avoids all pageantry and obscure mythological references.  It expresses a feeling that we all come to understand. “Dream On” conveys the mood of aging. Joe Perry’s guitar is truly quite lovely. Plus, the solo is amassing and quite varied. The Guitar compliments Steven Tyler’s voice rather well.  The overall tempo is not too fast.  This kind of tempo is quite common in ballads. However, in the chorus it picks up the pace a bit.

Let’s move onto the lyrics. “Dream on” begins with the speaker looking at himself in the mirror. Mirrors reflect the truth. Here the speaker has noticed that he has aged.  It seems that by aging one pays for one’s past mistakes. Redemption is carved into the wrinkles of the speaker’s face.  The next lines are simple enough.  In the third stanza, the speaker invokes history to delineate time.  His early life is written in history.



 Again, his past mistakes returns to him. The second half of the song is “sing with me” and “Dream On” that. This section calls the listener to remember both the good and the bad time. The listener must use them as motivation to keep on dreaming. The song ends calling the listener to “Dream On”. One does not know when death might come.  The last half has a more of a Carpe Diem theme. Carpe Diem means enjoy the moment.  I think that is everything.  Aerosmith’s “ Dream On” song deserves 5 star rating.
