Girls un Panzer is the handy work of the anime company Actas. This anime show was made by Tsutomu Mizushima and produced by Kiyoshi Sugiyama. This anime show is related to Strike Witches. The history advisory, Takaaki Suzuki who made Strike Witches and Upotte, is going to be designing the armament in this Tank anime show. As a matter of fact, the manga form of Girls un Panzer was released this summer, on June 5. It has become tradition in the mangaka business, that the manga is made before the show. However, in major productions by big companies, the TV concept is already done. They usually have a random mangaka artist work with the storyline. Thus, both help boost the anime show's popularity. These days there is a marriage between the animators and the mangaka artists in Japan. As you can see, Girls und Panzer is another child of this powerful union.



Well, onto the storyline of Girls und Panzer. As usual, anime likes to do away with stereotypes. In our world, tanks are usually operated by dudes. However, in the world of Girls und Panzer, Tank operation is a Traditional martial arts for girls. It seems the anime world wants their Japanese women to join the Self Defense force. This anime show is played out in a school setting. The main anime girl, Nishizumi Miho, has just transferred into Oarai Girl's High School. During orientation the student council chairperson gives Miho a terrible advice.

Well, an order to be more exact. In Japan, the student council chairpersons run their very own tropical dictatorships inside the schools they inhabit. In the US, if we get an order from the Student Body President we simply ignore them and go on with our lives. However, their orders in Japan are the law. It is considered a great dishonor to refuse an order from a council chairpersons. Miho could refuse, however, this is Japan we are talking about. They are into the whole community and honor thing that the west does not care much for.

In any case, the student council chair persons wants Miho to participate in the national Sensha-do championship. This is where the Girls und Panzer thing comes into the picture. This is the national tank girl tournament. You see, there is a sense of destiny and irony in Girls und Panzer. Miho had left her old high school running away from her Sensha duties. Miho is a really a talented Tank girl. However, in this new school again she is forced into the field of battle. Miho cannot escape from the duties demanded of her for being a talented Sensha girl. Ironically, this anime show seems progressive with the whole women riding tanks things. Yet, it reinforces women's duties to the society they inhabit. It sounds cruel to us. However, this is Japan we are talking about. They are in love with their sense of duty and honor. We could use some of that. After all, it is working wonders for them. Remember, that Japan has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. In any case, the new anime show Girls und Panzer deserves 5 star rating.
