Resident Evil 6 Capcom Horror Game Review

I recently purchased the Resident Evil 6 game. It came with a language expansion pact. It allowed for me to put the audio of the game in Spanish. I wanted for my Mama to understand events of the game. Hehehe... Lets see, before purchasing the game, I played the demo in Xbox live. It was pretty long for a demo. Basically, you had to escape a Zombie infested University Campus. The thing I liked best was the realism. Aside from the blood and gore, I thought it was pretty cool how the target reacted to the ricochet of the guns. That was a pretty cool trick.

There was also the issue with the zombies ambush. They only activated whenever you got close to them. I avoided them by running. In the demo, like in the game, they give you the running out of bullets experience. You have to be very conservative with your shots. The game does allow you to have infinite ammo. However, that would dilute the true zombie game experience.

I think that is enough talk about the Demo. The game itself allows you to play, at first 4 campaigns. One can play with up to 4 characters, in certain events. The rest of the time its a 2 player game. The computer is pretty good at surviving. If you do not have a second control, you can wait and eternity or two to get the help from an online player. Usually, online players have been in the game longer. Others are just as novice as you are.

Thinking about it, its kinda problematic to start playing Resident Evil 6 with the storyline so far advance. The game itself is modeled after a horror movie. It has a lot of darkness here and there. Most of the time, Resident Evil has you jumping at shadows. I am referring to the first mission, after the intro.

The intro of the game focuses on Leon and Helena. Leon is a character who survived Resident Evil 2. He is currently trying to help out Helena. She has been seriously wounded. The scene is like one of those, "go on and save yourself" kinda touchy moment. Leon refuses to abandon his friend. Via his movements, we get through the game tutorial. At first, they teach you to move things. Later, they show you how to make potions. Using the herbs, Helena gets better.

My favorite tutorial is the running tutorial. You are outside in the streets and then a zombie infested plane falls. You then have to run like hell to avoid getting killed. The next tutorial is done inside a helicopter that picked you up. There the pilot gets hurt and you have to use the trigger commands to steady the helicopter. Eventually, you make it to this place that has the Umbrella Corporation logo. They end the tutorial before the final showdown.

After this intro, they let you play regularly the Resident Evil game. At first there are 4 campaigns. There you play the game from the perspective of 4 different groups of chibis. I thought it was pretty cool the shadow trick. In this game, you are going to be jumping at shadows often. Capcom did a really good job at offering their players the horror zombie movie experience.

Anyhow, my bro was first to play. He likes chicks so he choose to play as Helena, in the Leon campaign. Early on, when they fought President Zombie, we find out that Helena is responsible for this zombie mess. Then again, she is the one who claims responsibility. When reporting to the superiors, Leon admitted that he had shot the president. He told them that the President had been infected by the T- Virus.

The issue is that the President wanted to expose to the world the truth about the Racoon City incident. It seems Umbrella or Neon Umbrella was not too happy about having their operation exposed. That point aside, Leon and Helena have to leave the hall Presidential house. Leon decides to follow Helena to the church. There she will explain "everything". When you get outside the office all is quiet. There is not a zombie in sight.

In this first level, the tension is paper thin. To make matters worse, there is the eerie music and the lightning. At a certain point, rats start showing up all over the place. This leads up to our first zombie. A father is couching up blood while looking for his daughter. He spoke of how a mist had gotten inside. Needless to say, that mist is the T-Virus. He eventually does find his daughter. She was badly injured by our first zombie.

We do manage to save the girl. However, we eventually get stuck inside an elevator with the girl and her father. Like such classical, scary movie elevator scenes, the lights went off. When they turned back on, the girl was already a zombie. She was devouring her father. It was a gruesome sight...considering that we were stuck in a crammed room with a zombie chick. The zombie girl was quickly taken care off. The elevator kept going on its merry course. Frankly, I was expecting for an army of zombies to jump me the minute the elevator door opened.

Nothing of the sort occurred, however, there was a decent amount of zombies here and there roaming about the parking lot. From then on, the scene connected to the demo about the campus zombie students. The worst part there was when the alarm went off in a hallway. It had windows on both sides. The way to get across had been locked due to a bad code. We had to survived the zombie onslaught while our operator hacked the door to help Helena and Leon escape.

From then on, its the road to the church. At a certain point, we take the underground route. This time it was I who played the Resident Evil's level. The streets were crowded with zombies. Underground the metro ran rampant. If you were not careful you were run over. What I really hated about the underground level was the visibility. The flashlight was sucky. It barely illuminated anything. To avoid ambushes, I kept toward one wall. That way the zombies could only ambush me from 3 different vantage point.

Underground, they introduced the classical zombie dogs. They were the first non human zombies from the first Resident Evil game. Outside the Metro, we returned to zombie city. The place was a complete chaos. Zombies running rampant left and right. The car accidents were also problematic. There were also a few zombies trying to get inside Residential homes.

In that city, we encountered some of the most problematic zombies. The firsts were the cop zombies. They shot all over the place in their zombie fashion. If you were not careful they blew your brains out. When we reached the gas station, we met some humans who were fighting off the zombies. At that point, one zombie that was eating a lot evolved. His throat became enlarged. He started attacking us with a sonic boom.

He was eventually dispatched thanks to the gas tanks explosions. Well, with this team of weirdos, we got inside a gun shop. There we had plenty of ammo to fight off the zombies (thank God for the NRA). That world was really hard. We had to clear the ground level of zombies before the owner would let us in to the second floor. At a certain point, we fought some skinless zombies, one of those yeller zombies and a giant fat guy zombie. The fat guy zombie was really hard to kill. Like I always say, I am very stingy with my items. Whether they be healing items or bullets. I always save them for a rainy day. Well... in this case, the fat guy zombie counted as a rainy day.

It took like 5 shotgun blast to the face to kill the beast. When we did escape the place. We could not move the bus because there was another fat guy blocking the road. Once again, the shotgun proved to be quite handy. The chapter ended when the bus headed toward the church. This concludes the first chapter of this Resident Evil 6 campaign. For my first time, I did not do half bad. I was ranked B. I would have gotten rank A had I hurried up. Then again, from my experience, those who rush in blindly are the first to die in games like this. I hope that I said enough about this Resident Evil game to pick your interest.

To be honest, this is the first Resident Evil game I ever played. Sure, it would make sense to start with the first. However, with games such as this, it is not good to go backward. Playing older versions of games is always disappointing (graphic wise). For this reason, I recommend for first time Resident Evil players, to get the 6th part. By now, the Resident Evil games have worked out all the kicks. Even if you do not get the whys or the hows, its still a pretty good gaming experience. In conclusion, Resident Evil 6 deserves 5 stars rating.
