Meditation on the Israel Gaza Conflict:  Israel's War against the Hamas

This conflict between the Hamas and Israel seems as old as time itself. Then again, the Palestinians have been complaining about the Israeli ever since Israel was founded. In this state of affairs, I do not see how peace can be possible. The only way to end the conflict with the Hamas is to wipe that terrorist cell off the map. Like it was to be expected of their kind, they are hiding behind women and children. They are not men enough to fight, arms to arms, with the Israeli forces. Thus, they resort to guerrilla tactics. I suppose it is pretty easily for the westerners to critique their tactics. However, there are a few issues to considers. For starters, when you are dealing with an overpowering foe, one naturally chooses to win by any means necessary.

I am not excusing the Hamas' terrorist behavior. I simply wish to put things in perspective. As the saying goes, all is fair in love and war. Needless to say, neither side is willing to budge. From what I heard the Hamas group is being supported by Iran. Like we all know, Israel is the United States' pet country. Our US Tax dollars are keeping Israel's armed forces up to date. From my perspective, this seems like a proxy war between the US and Iran. The Cold War might be over, however, their tactics are still pretty popular. As such, both the Hamas and the Israeli are using combat tactics learned from their sponsors. The Isreali fight like the US, Hamas fights like the terrorist cells of Iran.

From time to time, I cannot help, but think of the Irony. All these problems in the Middle East are carry overs from the Cold War. The US taught them to defeat the Soviets, now they are using those tactics against the US allies. Talk about creating a Frankenstein. Well, it is useless to place blame. When the dices are already cast, one can only deal with the outcome. If you think about it, both the Palestinians and the Israeli are victims. They are pawns in the chessboard of two great Titans that are ought to destroy each other.

Enough, of philosophical mambo jumbo. All that matters is dealing with present situations. The past cannot be undone. At this moment, Hamas is showering Israel with rockets. In order to recruit more followers, Hamas placed their rocket launchers among civilians. Should the Self Defense force accidentally kill a civilian, this will assure new followers for Hamas. I read of their draconian recruitment methods. They usually draw the attention of the Israelis. During any regular skirmish, there are a few civilian casualties. The Hamas leaders contact the family of the dead ones and they get the men to join their forces. These tactics assures Hamas an endless pool of followers.

The only way to take them down is by killing the military leaders. You know, the masterminds that never risk their skin. From what I read, the Israeli have been only targeting the Hamas leaders. This whole problem started Wednesday, when they slew one of the Hamas' military leaders. Since then, Hamas has launched a full scale assault on Israel. They are demanding that Israel end the blockage in Gaza. They also want the Israelis to stop assassination mission against their leaders.

These demands sound peachy, however, it is important to consider a few things. The blockage is Hamas' fault. If they had played nice, then there would not have been any blockage. As for the assassinations, for the Israelis, they see them more as execution. We all agree that criminals must pay for their crimes. Thus, the so called assassinations are actually executions. Sorry Hamas, but you guys had it coming. You do not win sympathy points by hiding behind women and children.

For the time being, Israel is preparing to enter Gaza. They sent leaflets to the Palestinians civilians asking them to evacuate. A retaliation is looming over the horizon. Like it was to be expected, the neighboring countries came to moderate the situation. Egypt hates the Israeli's guts. If I remember correctly, for a while, Israel took a big bite out of Egypt's territory. They eventually gave it back. However, since then, the Egyptians have been against Israel.

They are demanding that the Israeli stop their aggression against Hamas. It's so cute how they overlooked the torrent of rockets sent by Hamas. This does not bode well for Egypt. Just when the West imagined that the Egyptians had finally changed their ways, they return to the same old, same old. I guess the Arab Spring has ended in Egypt. As for Katar, they support Hamas economically. However, they are asking them to tone down the whole rocket launching thing. Meaning, that they wish to bride Hamas into stopping their aggression against Israel. Eh, whatever works for them. As for Hamas, they slew some Palestinians under the accusation of being Israeli collaborators.

Israel Gaza, Israel and Hamas, Gaza Strip

As noticed, Katar and Egypt, are the only two countries on Hamas' side (not counting the puppet masters in Iran). Against them, we have the US, the UN and many other chibis. In this current state of affairs, negotiations have been quite narrowed down. All they desire is for Hamas to cease fire, or else. However, we will see if it happens and for how long that peace will last. I give them about a month, at most. Sooner or later, they will be at each others throats again.

The problem is that Hamas is currently the best governmental body for Gaza. The alternatives for them are much worse. Thus, they are the lesser of many greater evil. It makes my skin craw to imagine what sort of Machiavellian groups could be worse than Hamas. This means that Israel is not really going to destroy Hamas, anytime, in the near future. Needless to say, the situation looks grim for both parties. I do not see a peaceful resolution in the near future, or ever...
