Dragon's Dogma: the Final Battle and then Some Game Review

After the princess incident, my brother was feeling very bored of the game. He told me to fight the dragon already, even though  I was only in level 50. He read in the internet that the Dragon was not the final boss. He assured me that I was simply going to kill him in a movie... he lied! When I arrived to the layer of the red worm I discovered who was my true romantic interest. It turns out that the first person you give the Arisen bond becomes your romantic interest. Thus, the guy the Dragon had kidnapped was the best weapon smith in the game. As it was to be expected, the Dragon gave me a deal. For the price of my lover, he would go away for a while. I then understood why the Duke had gone mad. He had taken the Dragon's bargain and obtained the Kingdom of Grand Soren. Grigori compared us to the Goblins.

Seeing the super scary beast, I decided to go save the guy. At first, Kida had to run away. One could not fight the dragon in that auditorium. Most of the time, I was following the instructions of the pawns. In this battle, they all agreed that I had to run away. I managed to trap it in a crammed location. Seeing himself cornered, the Dragon got outside. Like Devil May Cry 4, we had to jump across the ruined city to both get to the dragon and avoid his bad breath. It was quite intense. From time to time, we would high jack a ballistic tower and all 4 of us shot at the Dragon. He obviously did not like it.

Eventually, he jumped us. At this point of the elaborate battle, I was riding the back of the beast. He was flying so fast, trying to shake off the Arisen. I had to carefully climb all the way up his back. In the glow of his spine, shone the Arisen's heart. I climbed and hacked at it. At first, I was a bit freaked out and impatient. I kept swinging my blade too early. After the 4th climb, I got in a good position. Kida sliced the beast's back  like there was no tomorrow. At a certain point, he throws you off and tries to eat you. If you miss the command, he swallows you whole. I eventually brought the beast down. In a huge arena, Kida Nina had to fight the beast like any regular old monster. No movies where going to save her.

I have always been stingy with the items. Thus, I was used to fighting bosses with little to no healing items. It was a good habit to develop because I forgot to take all my healing items. Most of the ones I had available I found on the way to Grigori. Another problem arose, in relation to the Arisen's form. I was currently training the warrior. Since bro told me that the movies where going to take care of him I did not bother to wear the magical archer form. With no double jump, magic bolts or levitation I had to fight him the old fashion way. By simply climbing the beast and hoping that he would not bite my head off (which happened often enough).

The battle took a decent enough time. I was already familiar with the killing all pawns attack of Grigori. The Drake has used it often enough. Thus, I was not unprepared for what came next. At a certain point, he started doing that on a regular basis. He also took flight from time to time. We found some ballistic towers nearby. We took care to knock him off his high tower or from the sky. As is usual with these games, the Arisen was the one that had to deliver the killing blow. It was so hard to get at him. Remember, that my Arisen was a bite size. I eventually made it and slew the beast.

At that moment, the Duke and the Dragonforge got their hearts back. The problem was that neither had slain the beast. The Duke became an old man. The Dragonforge turned to dust. As he laid dying, Grigori said some nonsense about the Truth of the world, staring back at you from a deep abyss. After he died, the world began to die as well. It seems that Grigori was the life force of this planet. If you slew the Dragon, the world died with it.

The game got pretty creepy afterwards. There was the usual end game credits and the Arisen sleeping with her hubby. Now, in Cassidis we had both Selene and the merchant. The epilogue began after the credits. The world has turned very ugly. According to the internet people, the sky was taken from Residents Evil. For me, it seemed more like Silent Hill. You know, that sort of strange rain you get during a Nuclear Winter. Oh, did I forget to mention that Grand Soran has been destroyed. It was Grigori the one who gave the Duke Grand Soren. Now, that he is gone the town has a deep hole.

At this point, doing escort missions and other things was depressing. I did not like to look at the sky. At night it, was dark red and creepy. Truly, the game was no longer funny. I did trigger a fighting mission. The guy who was training the Arisen challenged her to a duel. I lost twice. I really was no good with the 2 handed  weapon. It is a wonder how I slew Grigori in the first place. In any case, I went to check on the Duke. I noticed the palace was deserted. I took this time to go check the treasure vault. It was emptied out. It seems the Capcom people predicted this and thus emptied out the place. After feeling kinda low, I went to see the Duke.

The Arisen saw the king all withered. By now she had her voice back. The king told his guards that I had made a bargain with the Dragon. It was me who had cursed them. Well, the Arisen was at a loss for words despite having her voice back. We fled Grand Soren. While escaping a murder of harpies got out of the hole in Grand Soren. It seems the hole led to the Everfalls. The strange blue light was now greenish like the sky. Heck, both the Everfalls and the sky where mirror mode. Grigori knew this and warned the Arisen about the Everfalls. See, I always knew that Grigori was a good chibi. He just got really unlucky. Then again, someone as crazy as me would ask, after the first scene, if the Dragon was evil.

In any case, the party went into the Everfalls. Since we where preparing for the Final battle, we hired out some expensive pawns off the internet. One was Alvy and the other I forget... Anyhow, one was top rated and the other was a Special pawn. They costed an arm and a leg. Then again, by now Kida was in level 62. At most, I had to waste 10,000 rift fragments. It was a fair bargain.

By this time, Kida was still a warrior and Pride had become a Strider. Back then I had the habit of always using the opposite form of my pawn. Thus, if I wanted to try light weapons I just switched forms and equipment with Pride. It made things easy and cheap. In any case, this new party entered the Everfalls. Some random pawn asked me to gather some wakestones. I wish I had collected them earlier. To find a decent amount I had to plummet into the Everfalls.

The first boss of the Everfalls was the Tentacle monster. It turns out that it was just a creepy eye. I simply got on him and smashed him, until he died. This was the simplest of all these boss battles. There, I also ran into some sage saurians. They where pretending to be pretty statues. While wondering the Everfalls, we kept running into depressed pawns. They had lost their masters in their quest to find the wakestones.

One of such pawns had the best equipment in the game. I had no money at the time, thus I used a ferrystone to get out. I sold all my old equipment and got a nifty 3.4 million of gold. This gave me enough to purchase only the good stuff. I bought Kida a new armor and sword. I also bought a crown and some bracelets for my magical archer form. For Pride, I bought her some new shoes and a knife.

With this new equipment, our party was ready to face the Everfalls. From my short trip, I fought two bosses that where extremely hard to beat. The first one was the Hydra, version 2. It kept biting my head off. Plus, its tail was all over the place. I can honestly say that it was Alvy the one who fell the beast. Most of the time, I was waiting for my stamina to recharge to get in there. I needed enough to climb the beast, strike it, and run away. Other times, I had to use this stamina to revive all my pawns. At that moment, I wished that I had some healing items.

The second notorious battle was a bit overcrowded. It involved a fight with a chimera, an abomination, 2 magic using jumbo ghost, and 20 hell hounds. There was so much fighting that I had to keep track of 100 different things at once. I had decided to slay the chimera and the abomination first. They where the most dangerous of beasts. Yet, I had to keep an eye on my pawns to make certain they did not die. The problem was that whenever one kicked the bucket a hell hound would carry Kida away before she got to the pawn. It was truly a real mess. Things got a bit easier after the chimera and the Abomination died. Just a bit of dodging magic here and there. Then, I blinked and the battle was over. It was really quite intense. Frankly, I found this battle harder, than the battle with Grigori.

After these two epic battles, I had enough wakestones to fight the final boss. In Dragon's Dogma, the Final Boss is God. I had a sneaky suspicion about it. Thus, I never sold the Godslayer weapon I got from the Dragon. I figure that I might have to put it to good use. My brother almost sold it. It was weaker than my current weapon. The final battle was a bit problematic. In the first part, he did some psychic mumbo jumbo. Man, he would not shut up.

When I slew the shinny guy, alone mind you, I removed his hood and saw that it was me. Later, the Final Boss had me kill all my friends. This is where things got hilarious. Among the group, I slew Selene and her Grandma. However, her Grandma was already dead... so what the hell? Among the group of pals, I slew the Duke twice. First the young version, with his pawn , the Jester. Later, I fought the old version of the king. Lastly, I saw Quina and her escort. I was wondering where they had disappeared to. For next file purposes,  I plan to keep a good eye on them.

After showing God the Arisen's resolution, he showed his true colors. It seems that the God or the Seneschal was the Arisen from the Tutorial. I was wondering the purpose of that stupid flashback. In any case, I fought him with Pride alone. It all came down to how well the pawn and the arisen worked together. The battle was quite intense. The first guy I slew was the Final boss. However, he would not die. I sorta figure that I had to defeat the pawn to make this guy go away. However, he blew up before I could give the Final blow.

When I died, I discovered the origin of the Dragon. Those who lost to the seneschal become the new Red Dragon. Luckily , they gave me the option to fight the seneschal again. This time I slew the pawn first. I then held the Godslayer. When I clicked on the use command, the Godslayer killed Kida, instead. At this point, I said to myself, "This sucks". After thinking it through, I figure that Pride had to hold the weapon. Whenever the boss was about to blow up, I grabbed him.

I had to hope that Pride would know what to do with the Godslayer. It only took 3 risky tries to slay the seneschal. After it was all over, Kida became God. It was all a trial to make the next God more powerful ,than the last. You know, to keep the planet strong and vibrant. Gods are funny like that. They can't give their powers to any random weirdo. They must temper the Arisens steel to see if they are worthy. Kinda like Mirai Nikki.

In order to Finish the transfer of power, I had to wield the Godslayer of the former God. I had to use it to slay the guy. Before killing him, he offered me his knowledge. The questions where the usual mystical mumbo jumbo. For being the vessel of the Maker, he did not know of life after death. It certainly shows his place in the chain of command. It seems even a weirdo with Godlike powers cannot compare to the real thing. In any case, the Arisen became the new God or seneschal.

I was allowed to return to Cassidis. Kida was now the protector of her town. The problem was that Kida was invisible. She could only open doors. Yet, she could not speak to anyone. Then again, aside from grunts and yells, my Arisen never spoke. Pretty weird... I got bored after 5 minutes. I went back into the throne room and used the Godslayer to give Pride my heart. A cute movie followed afterwards.

Dragon's Dogma The Final Battle, Dragon's Dogma Grigori, Dragon's Dogma

Pride was falling from the sky trying to catch up to Kida's dead body. They both landed in the ocean. When Pride got out, she had become Kida. Kida's hubby went to check up on Kida Pride. In the end, Kida died. She lives on inside Kida Pride. Thus, the game ended with the death of the main character. This is a final Fantasy X thing. It is very cool to slay the main character in the end. It keeps one from making stupid second parts.

What was interesting was that even before Giving Pride, Kida's heart, Pride had become Kida. Originally, Kida had started as a strider and Pride as a Warrior. By the end of the game, Kida was the strong chick in the party and Pride the Strider. Talk about switching roles. In any case, I already started a new file using my clear data. I did not want to change the design of both chicks. This leads me to my next point. Pride has already experience fighting in the Everfalls and she is in level 65. So, if you guys see a guppy pawn with a blue lion's helm, could you hire her. Pride is ever so useful. I trained her to always stick close to her master. So, please, please hire my crappy pawn!! She is truly 5 star worthy.

So, we come to the end of my Dragon's Dogma review/ spoiler. I hope that you liked the progress of my game, even a little. You know, this kinda reminds me of those weird Dragon books. You know, the ones where you choose to go left or right. Depending on your choice is the page you turn to. I mean we had the choice to take the Gregory's deal or not. We could have also avoid fighting the final boss. In any case, Dragon's Dogma deserves 5 stars rating.
