The Sword in the Stone Disney Kids Movie Review
I recently watched this cute little Disney movie. The Sword in the Stone is based on a book written by T.H. White. After the prologue, about the sword in the stone, the movie begins with with Merlin. He is complaining about the dark ages. He hates that there is no pluming or electricity. At first, it seemed that he was talking about the Romans times. However, Merlin has traveled into the future. Thus, he naturally knows about electricity. Due to his foresight, he was able to predict the arrival of someone who would be king.
While he waits for Arthur he converses with his owl Archimedes. He threatens to turn him into a human. The funny thing is that Archimedes was truly a human. So, it implies that Merlin followed through on his threats sometime in the future. Anyhow, Merlin eventually meets the boy Arthur, after he stumbles into Merlin's hut while searching for an arrow. Since their meeting, Merlin set out the educate the boy.
He wishes the boy to know that with Education one can get to places. The way Merlin educated the boy at first was Emil style. Emil is a book about the education of a little boy in nature. Via nature, Merlin taught Arthur great lessons of life. In the fish lesson, Arthur learned that via wit the weak can overcome the strong. In the squire form, Arthur learned about the power of love. One does not choose whom we fall in love with. The force of attraction is stronger, than gravity. At a certain point, Archimedes and Merlin have some disagreements about Arthur's education. He taught Arthur needed to brush up on the basics. Its a good thing too... because Arthur did not know how to read.
What I liked best was the magic. The fact that Merlin kept forgetting his spells had nothing to do with his age. Oblivion comes with the magical territory. Its pretty neat how Merlin's familiar owl remembered all of his spells. Yeah, that is one way to make use of a familiar. They may not use magic, but they can keep track of your spells for you. The fight with the crazy witch was also pretty cool. Its neat how he defeated her dragon form via sickness. I think that is everything worth mentioning about this cute Disney movie. Truly, the Sword in the Stone deserves 5 stars rating.
