The Shining Horror Movie and Mini Series Review
The Shining is one of those classical Steven King horror movies. I watched the movie and the mini series. Both were 5 stars worthy. The movie version is more in tune with the book. Our main character, is a burnt out writer who has drinking problems. He is in recovery. One day that he was drunk, he accidentally broke the arm of his little kid. Ever since then, his wife has been afraid of him. She will not let him forget what he did their little boy.
One day, to make meets ends, they go to the Overlook Hotel. There the owners hired them to be hotel sitters. Thus, the couple and their little kid got to go there. The writer hopes that the isolation helps him focus on his writing. In the hotel, the little kid discovers that he has the Shining. The chef tells him that should he get in trouble, he could use his powers to call him.
He also warns him that the hotel has a shine about it. It is full of both good and bad memories. He warns the kid to stay away from room 237. After this warning, the family is left alone, inside the hotel. It takes about a month for anything interesting to happen. Things goes from bad to worst, when the kid's powers begin to act up. The rest of the movie is pretty awesome. The acting of Jack Nicholson was totally amassing. I thought it was cute how both the character and the actor had the same first name.
It certainly made things easier for Jack. The shining kid and the mother also were pretty peachy. Its all about the character dynamics. In the mini series, we have the same family. Some of the facts are changed here and there. They also went a little crazy with the special effects. Both did have the creepy twins. Those twins were based a photo taken by Diane Arbus. She is quite famous for doing creepy little numbers. The ending in the mini series is also different. In any case, both deserve 5 stars rating.
