William Blake was a famous painter and poet... He become famous very late in his life. Most of the time, his artwork was ignored. He was a proponent of the Romanticism ideals. He was disenchanted with the Enlightenment Era. He thought that science took away from the world its magic and its spirit. As such, he painted works with a Romantic sentiment. For him, God was human's creative spirit.





He truly did embody the Romantic spirit. He died while working on his Dante's Inferno illustrations series. His last piece of work was a portrait of his wife. He wanted to immortalize her because she had been an angel to him in his final moments. He died when he finished the portrait of his wife. The pity is that since he hated materialism he died poor.

In this painting, we see a bunch of dead people. Hovering over them is Time. No one can escape his influence. Beside him, we see a very depressed man. He has a knife in his hand. This shows that he is Blake's grim reaper. As such, he is looking very grim in the face of death. Anyhow, this illustration deserves 5 stars rating.

This painting we see this infamous parable. The wise Virgins waited prepared for their grooms and were rewarded. The unwise were excluded from the marriage feast for not being prepared. This parable stands for Judgement Day. You must always be prepared for Judgment Day. It may come in any second. Above the maidens, we see an angel playing a trumpet.
