Sabriel by Garth Nix Fantasy Necromancer Book Reviews 5 Stars Worthy

Today, I wanted to review one of my favorite fantasy books. This one is called Sabriel. It is the story of a cool necromancer chick. The world she lives in is half science, half magical. Science does not work beyond the borders. Anyhow, one day Sabriel travels to the magical half to try to save her father. There she masters her necromancer powers. The story line is not too complicated. What I liked best was the necromancy, with the bells, the ghost cat and the runeblade.

The eight gates scenes were pretty creepy. Nix painted a proper vision of the other life. Frankly, it is no wonder the dead there refuse to stay dead. The black cat was pretty odd. It is a bummer what necromancers do with the greater undead. The only thing that I did not like about the book was its two sequels. Frankly, it seemed like the book was going to end with Sabriel. Her final battle was really something else. It was very well described.

The second part was about her distant younger sister. She was a failed seer who wanted to kill herself. You know, nothing too complicated. Frankly, she was a terrible main character. Plus, her romantic interest was her half cousin. Its a pity Nix dedicated the last two books to that chick. If I was him, I would have stayed with Sabriel. She was a cooler main character. For this reason, only the first book of the Abhorsen saga is 5 stars worthy. Don't bother reading the other two books. They suck!!
