Maleficent Disney Movie Review

The movie Maleficent was a post-modern version of Sleeping Beauty. Lately, Disney has been doing movies focused on explaining why bad guys turned bad. The prince was practically useless in the story. The king was a return to the original King in Sleeping Beauty.

In the original story, the king slept with Sleeping Beauty.  It was her twin sons which woke her up. It was a dark German tale. The movie also tried to do away with the Disney tradition that a Prince saved the Princess. The special effect budget in the movie was off the scale. 

The three fairies who had raised Aurora were turned into incompetent fools. The final battle with the Iron King and the Dragon was pretty cool. The scenery was taken straight out of Dark Souls. Angelina Jolie really was a great Maleficent. Although, the over emphasis on the cheekbones was rather weird.
