Chassériau was a romantic painter. He did mostly historical and allegorical paintings. He studied under Ingres and other classical painters. He was very prolific during his short career. His masterpiece was a decoration for the Cour des Comptes. It got badly burned up during a fire. He died at the age of 37, after an illness.
The first featured painting shows Venus coming out of the water. She is trying to dry her wet hair under the sun. Like most Venus paintings, she is showing her lovely figure by the water. The scenery is as beautiful as the sunrise. This wonderful painting by Chassériau deserves 5 stars rating.
