Much Ado About Bugs and Other Things in FF7
As you all may know, Final Fantasy 7 was the first RPG game I ever played. Looking back on this game, I could not help but wonder about a few odd things here and there. This blog is meant to bring to light the bugs and other oddities that called most my attention. So, lets get this show on the road!!!
1-Ok, lets begin. Lets talk about chocobos. Ah…those cute Chocobos. We cannot breed the red, light red, the white and the purple chocobos. Its a real bummer about not being able to breed those cuties. As a matter of fact, the only white one outside the tracks is owned by the Chocobo Colonel in at the north Cayon.
2-Another thing that really calls my attention is that there are no chick Sephiroth clones. I do remember that in Cloud’s town there were children clones. Then again, its was a real sausage fest in Nibelheim. As a matter of fact, Tifa was the only girl in Cloud's flashback (aside from Cloud’s mama who died before Sephiroth went berserk). It’s funny, Vincent slept through the entire Nibelheim massacre. Hehehe…if he wanted redemption he should have taken care of Sephiroth back then. Oh well. Okay, moving along.
3-Other than that, we have the amassing mind powers of Sephiroth. For a bad guy that did not recognize Cloud the first time they met, he certainly knew a lot about Cloud. I think the second time they saw each other, in the ship, Sephiroth asked him,” Who are you?”. That Sephiroth did not know for a while who was Cloud. I noticed that Sephiroth began to sound more lucid the closer he got to the North Crater. He was at the prime of his powers when he turned into Tifa or during his illusion. Then again, he only referred to Cloud as Cloud in the temple of the ancients. Before then, it was either traitor or “here they come”. You know, what I loved best was when he entered the Flashback at the Temple of the Ancients. He could have totally cut them in half when he passed by them as they gazed into that pool. Plus, he was so cool when he prostrated himself in front of Cloud in that special creepy way of his. I remember that Kadaj did the same thing in front of Rufus. God, that was so creepy… I guess that pose helps him when using his mesmeric powers…(I don’t know why thinking about that pose brought yaoi thoughts into my head…).
4-The thing that called most my attention was the lil inscription on Jenovah’s “hat”. I read it over and it kinda felt like it said,” all rights reserve , 1995, squaresolf inc”. I thought it was a witty place to put the copyright disclaimer of the game. Later, I did some research (because I was not too certain whether I read it right or not) and it turns out that there is no general consensus about what the lil hat says. Others says, that Jenovah was made in Hong Kong. In Advent Children, it says “|µ|-Era 19591010 Hakken |µ|-Era 19670702 Fuuin”. To make matters worse, in the Last Order it says, ” Strick Secrecy, Scientific Inquiry Section, Shin-Ra Company Limited” . I guess the creator never quite settle on the text on Jenova’s helmet. The one in the Last Order makes more sense. However, the copyright is the one in the original. All who speculate on the original text agree that the helmet says ” all rights reserve”. Either way, it does not matter much…because Sephiroth took the head.
5-Oh, I was reading another blog about frequently asked questions about FF7. They wanted to know if Cloud could fly. I say, yeah, Totally!!! Do you remember the incident in the North Crater. When Cloud thought he was a puppet, he flew to Sephiroth. To make matters worse, he was upside down like a bat while the others spoke about him. That Cloud is a flyer. Most people forget that Cloud is a failed Sephiroth clone. When Sephiroth’s influence was at its peack, Cloud was able to tap into the power of the Jenova cells and fly. Also, like the clones he heard only once Jenova’s voice. Do you remember when Sephiroth killed Aeris? After we killed the Jenova cell, Jenovah said, ” You are a Puppet”. That was Jenovah’s one and only line in the game. Then again, it did warn him when at the beginning of the game. Do you remember when Cloud went to blow up the first Maco reactor? Jenova or a mysterious voice told him,” Wait, this isn’t Just a Maco Reactor!”Ok, so we got pretty clear that Cloud can fly, like Vincent, because of the Jenova cells.
6-I also been thinking a lot about Vincent. He is a lot like Sephiroth, even more so than Cloud. Perhaps, he was an early attempt at a clone. His hand does look like the hand of the beast (aka Jenova). Plus, his transformation abilities mimics those of Sephiroth. He cannot turn into other people, but he can alter his shape. Think about it… Do you remember when Hojo changed his blood for Maco and Jenova cells? His body (without a shadow of a doubt) changed a "little". There was also the issue with the..”Twins”. I forget what that monster was called. You remember, one was blue and the other red? They where mentioned in the note inside the Garden of the Shinra mansion. It spoke first about Vincent being locked downstairs and another not so nice. That second had obtained a most hideous form due to the Jenovah cells. Perhaps, those that do not bond well with the Jenovah cells mutate. Thus, those with Jenovah cells either turn to monsters or turn to Sephiroth. I guess Cloud got lucky that he did not turn ugly like the “Twins” or Vincent’s other forms.
7- There was also the matter of the weird flashy room at the whore house at sector six. Aside from the odd speech, whoever was inside knew that Sephiroth was going to see the President of Shinra. It seems that the president was expecting someone who later turned out to be Sephiroth. Its a real bummer about the first one. Inside that room, the weird voice also mentioned Cloud, Jenovah and the Ancients. I think it was just Cloud channeling dead spirits again. He does seem to hear strange voices all over the place. Almost as if he was an Ancient. Well, Ifalna did say that the Ancients had gone into hiding. Perhaps, Cloud truly is an Ancient. This explains why he did not mix well with Sephiroth. Early in the game, Cloud channels either Zack or his mother. I remember in Yuno the voice told him,” Back then, you only scrapped your knees” (a line referencing the accident he had with Tifa when there were children). So yeah, perhaps the weird room is part of the whole talking to dead things or the planet that Cloud does throughout the game. As a matter of fact, he starts seeing himself whenever he starts malfunctioning. In conclusion, there is something seriously wrong with Cloud. I guess it cannot be helped. I doubt Ancients and Jenova mixed well.

8-Perhaps, that's the reason why Hojo wanted to mix Red XIII and Aeris together. To make the perfect fushion of three species. Lets analyze this experiment. Hojo did want to save all three extinct races. Red XIII did seemed to be immune to the influence of Jenova. Then again, he was already a beast. Lets see, a fusion of Jenova, an ancient and a Red XIII. Well, with Red XIII, the "kid" would have longevity and animal nature power. The ancients had the power of magic, the 6th sense, and talking and healing the planet. From Jenova, the kid would have gotten the power of perfect shape shifting (I say perfect because Ifalna spoke of “it’s” transforming powers as something more than just plain shape shifting. She said it could change form 100%. Almost alluding to a perfect body and soul transformation), illusion, mind control, flight and rebirth. If you ask me, that would have been one powerful fusion. You remember that Jenova was in the same lab as Red XIII and Aeris. If Red XIII did not already have the cells, then perhaps Jenova was also going to jump in ,at a certain point, into Hojo’s nightmarish orgy.
9-I also been thinking about the odd number of CDs. In most of the Square Enix games, when there is more than one CD, there is usually an even number of CDs. I bet they removed one of them. I been thinking… that perhaps, FF7 was going to be like FF8. You remember that CD 4 had most areas closed off to make room for Ultimecia’s castle. Perhaps, the crater was going to be bigger or there might have been alternative endings. There is also the matter of the odd things that do not match the first and the last CD. For example, Aeris showed up in her church at the last CD. I think in the last CD one had option of being with either Tifa, Aeris, or Yuffie. This might explain why in the cover of the game Aeris appears next to the Highwind. As a matter of fact, the scene where she sees this airship the first time is completely omitted. It should have taken place in the Juno docks. Speaking of the Highwind, there is two empty slots. One (possibly) for Aeris and the other for a goblin character they where gonna add (one of those you run into, like Yuffie).
However, what really stuck out was the the two missing Weapons. Lets see, I counted the Ruby Weapon in the desert prison, Emerald Weapon underneath the ocean(whose head was blasted off by the Maco cannon at the Juno docks), Ultimate Weapon (my favorite. We had to chase after this one on the Highwind until he tried to blast Cosmo Canyon ), and Diamond (who was defeated when he exited the water on his quest to destroy Midgard). There are two weapons unaccounted for. If I know Square Enix, one of the missing weapons must be an Omega Weapon. I also get the feeling that one should have been able to visit all Sectors of Midgard. Why else bother to mention these sectors? There is also the matter of the plane that sank to the bottom of the ocean. That event was never occurred in the game.
There is also the matter of trying not to kill Aeris. Remember when Cloud almost sliced Aeris in half (plus the Cloud sprite). It did seem as if Aeris could have been saved. Perhaps, Sephiroth might not have even gotten the black material. I guess they could not figure out how to bring down Meteor or any other calamities without having Sephiroth take the black material. Its all a real bummer… This also explains Areo 3 magic. That magic most definitely was not an Enemy Skill. Plus, in the Colloseum there was the option of loosing the black material. Ah…what a pity. What is a real bummer are those strange items you can win in Gold Rush.
Why did they give you a masamune? Oh, boy… was there a remote possibility of ending up with Sephiroth? He never did find out that Hojo was his father. Can you imagine a Darth Vader scene between Hojo and Sephiroth. “Sephiroth, I am your father”. Oh, and why did Tseg have Sephiroth's tough ring. Maybe he stole it after Sephiroth sliced him in half at the Temple of the ancients. Maybe he stole it and then Sephiroth got mad. "I'll be taking this". Sephiroth gives the kill bill face and there goes Tseng flying accross the room. He at least got the ring and a pretty neat slash (just like Tifa's... wait, where is her scar. One would think a slash from the Masamune would leave a pretty deep gash. You seen the Masamune, its the only known long range sword in existence!!If you ask me, he is over compensating for something... Aw, whatever, I guess Zangal (f.y.i he is Tifa's master) was a pretty good doctor)(damn my, ( ) keep getting longer and longer. Well here is a ( ) for a ( ). hehehehehe). Well, you got to be a pretty tough guy to steal a tough ring from Sephiroth.
With that note of Humor I end my blog. To be honest, I wanted to bring up ten examples. Like Square Enix, I do so hate odd numbers. Oh well, the last one is long enough to be two or three. Ok, so wish me luck. Good night and have a nice day. Since its a force of habit by now, I give FF7 and all its oddities a 5 star rating. That is one game with a million unanswered questions. That’s why its so wonderful. Bye,Bye!! (…I wonder? Does the conclusion feel a bit short to you? )Nah, I guess its just my imagination. Now, for real!!! Good night to you all. Yay, that’s the right visual length. Enough verbal fillers…seriously, Good night.
