Shark Blog : Bull Sharks are Fun!!
Like I promised, here is my shark blog. Today, I am gonna focus on Bull Sharks. Bull Sharks are fun because they are tolerant to freshwater. They are in many diverse locations all over the world. You can even find them inside very deep lake. For our purposes, Bull sharks can be found in the Gulf of Mexico, the Mississippi River and the Ohio River.
Even though, Bull Sharks are fun, they are very scary fishes. If you are not a professional shark diver, you should not swim with them.
Bull sharks are very moody fishes. They are passive aggressive. One minute they are your pals, the next they strike back. This aggressive behavior is due to their territorial nature. If you enter their turf, you are dead meat (this explains why they rarely hunt in a pack). As shown by the first photo, Bull Sharks like to be fed. However, like the Jurassic Park T-Rex, Bulls Sharks like to hunt. They usually bump into their pray and while they are numb by the blow they start eating them.
So remember, when you are feeding a Bull Shark with your hand most odds are that he is gonna keep it. Shark tamers use the snout of the shark to "jousse" them into docility. The problem is that Bull Sharks snout is square shaped. So their G- Point is kinda hard to grasp (specially when they go berserk).
I do not think Bull Sharks should be fished out. They are wonderful beautiful carnivorous creatures that deserve the same respect as the lions or the tundra wolf.
Bull Sharks are said to be deep sea swimmers. However, this photo disproves such a fact. That water looks awfully shallow. Base on the rocks I believe that this must be the mouth of a river. Behind them I can see the shark photographers. This is one of the Bull Shark's best angles.
Like other Sharks, the Bull sharks has lil fishes that follow him around. Like the graceful vulture, these lil fishes eat the scraps that fall out of the shark's mouth. Considering the hunting abilities of the sharks, its easier to follow a shark around then to look for the food yourself.
The sharks tolerate these lil fishes because they improve the sharks hygiene. They rely on them to such an extent that all Sharks allow these fishes to give them a dental treatment. They live in a perfect symbiosis.
Since they are fishes, one rarely sees shark out on the surface. The movie Jaws has done a great deal to popularize the whole fin-rising-out-of-the-water-before-the-attack thing. In this photo, the Bull Shark has been fished out to the surface. Because of the light, one can barely see the fish line. This is a super mean photo.
I like my sharks all natural. Its fun to see them in their natural habitat (from the safety of my couch seat). Many wonder why we should care about jaws (or all fishes in general). But remember, that these animals shared the world with us at some point. These animals are the mortal enemies of our ancestral fish self. For this reason, we must respect and admire our old nemesis. Who knows one day they might evolve into terribly scary amphibians.
I like the previous photo a lot. That Bull Shark was in such a hurry to catch a fish that he instead bit into a rock. As for the next photo, its amassing that this guy has not been eaten. He is wearing proper anti-shark bite chain mail. Around him we see three curious Bull sharks. Two of them are looking at him intensely. The one in the middle is bumping noses with the Bull Shark at the foreground.
The next photo shows a more humane way of bringing a Shark to the surface. This way a shark gets a free meal and they do not get scarred by the hook. All one has to do to set the Bull Shark Free is cut the rope.
Based on the fauna and the crocodile, I believe that this photo was taken in the everglades. This photo proves that Bull Sharks can and will swim up the river. However, in freshwater, crocodiles have the competitive advantage. All they have to do is take the shark to shallow waters and literaly drown it in fresh air.
Like all animals, Bull Sharks can sense the fear in their victims. If you approach them with cold blood, they will ignore you. However, if you freak out they will become aggressive. The problem is that people are naturally afraid of sharks. So it takes super human strength to calm down in the face of a shark.
The nose of the sharks has a tri purpose. First they help sharks find their food. Secondly, when you touch the nose of the shark it activate their biting reflexes (so avoid it). However, if it is a female shark touching its nose makes them as friendly as a doggie. So make certain that you flip your Bull Shark before petting its nose. If you do this right, you might even be able to ride it like a dolphin (trust me I saw this in a documentary with great white sharks).
I hope that you have enjoyed this Shark Blog. It is my hope to raise awareness on the magnificence of such a beautiful creatures. Bull Sharks are not man killers. It is foolishness to pass human moralism on these sea creatures. Bull Sharks are the way they are because mother nature made them so. Their behavior has ensured their survival. We must respect the wisdom of mother nature and not fret about the unfortunate eventuality of being bitten by one. After all, we have bigger odds of dying due to a crash then by a shark bite.
