The Simpsons Art Parody and Reference

So today I am gonna write to you about the Simpsons and the arts. I seen this show since I was little. It was the first consistent cartoon that I watched when I came to the US. Since it was in English, it helped me learn the language. As I grew older, I started noticing things that I took for granted about the show. Among them was the art.

So yeah, lets start things up. The first one is homer in the form of Rembrandt. This guy was an infamous Romantic painter from the 1800s. He did a bunch of creepy and stormy paintings. The paint on Homer Rembrandt looks a lot like the original. In any case, Homer Rembrandt gets 5 star rating.

Hey, guys , you remember the girl with a pearl earring. We discussed her last time. Here is Marge like Vermeer's maiden. Its witty how the turban is all the way up on Marge's hair. The only difference is that Marge here has a pearl necklace instead of earrings. Oh well, no matter. 5 stars.

Here we see a Apu as Salvador Dali. Dali was a Spanish surrealist painter. The man was as bizarre as his paintings. Here Apu is sporting a Dali mustache. He went for that whole Kafka roach look. Quite bizarre... In any case, Dali Apu deserves 5 star rating.

The next image shows Leonardo Da Vinci  (painter of the Mona Lisa) Simpson Style. That style of drawing lends itself well to this sort of thing. This one is one mimics the only known self portrait of Da Vinci. In any case, he deserves 5 stars rating.

The next one is a Simpson parody of the Vitruvian Man. This was Da Vinci's drawing of the perfect man. He showed how the perfect man fitted perfectly inside both a square and a circle. Instead of a circle, Homer fits in perfectly inside a donuts. The control remote and the hotdogs however are add ons. In any case, this one deserves 5 star rating.

This one is Homer as Edward Munch "The Scream". This one is of the impressionist style. Basically, the screaming person saw two strangers that frighten him. These persons lie in shadows. Here we see them behind homer. In any case, this Simpson scream deserves 5 star rating.

Above, we have an Andy Warhol parody. He was a pop artist from the 60s. Pop art is art  focusing on whats popular at the time.The lady above is Marylin Monroe Simpson style. She looks like the prettiest of all Simpson characters. In any case, she gets 5 star rating.

The next one is a Simpson parody of Van Gogh. This one is his self portrait. Groundskeeper Willy was chosen for this parody because both are crazed Red Heads. You remember Willy is a murderer in potency. As for Van Gogh, he blew his brains out and gave his ear to a girl he liked. As you can see, both have a lot in common. Anyhow, 5 star rating for this Simpson art picture.

The next one shows Homer lying on top of Marge. The pose is identical to "La Pieta" sculpture by Michelangelo. In this sculpture, the virgin Mary is holding in her arms her dead son. She looked upon him with quiet, resigned melancholy. Following this similar trend, here we have Homer dead Drunk. Truly, this art reference deserves 5 star rating.

The next one is a Jan Van Eyck Adam and Eve Simpson parody. Here Mr. Burns is offering the forbidden donut to Homer and Marge. This time the one who was tempted was the man. In any case, this Simpson art parody deserves 5 stars.

The next one is not an art parody per say. I just put it here cause I felt like it. Got a problem!!! Put it in comments. Praises welcome, critiques discouraged. Hahahaha!! Anyhow, this is a Simpson parody of the Beatles Abbey Road album. Its funny how ,instead of walking across the road, they are walking on water. This is also a parody to the statement that the Beatles are Bigger than Jesus. In any case, this one deserves 5 star rating.

This one is from the dream that Homer had at the art gallery. Homer went there looking for artistic inspiration. However, he fell asleep in the museum and started dreaming about art. First, he was awaken by a lion (by a painter whose name alludes me, perhaps Picasso). Later, he was shot by the guitarist cubist characters of Picasso. Lastly, Andy Warhol started throwing him Campbell chicken noodle cans. Here, Andy is about to crush him with a giant Campbell can. The story goes that Andy had gotten sick and all he ate was this soup. When he got out of the hospital he painted the Campbell soup. In addition to Marylin Monroe, the Campbell soup is his most infamous painting. For this reason, Homer is going to be crushed by it. Anyhow, 5 star rating.

This is the handy work of Bansky. Here we see a boy writing on the board "I must not copy what I see on the Simpsons". Its ironic in a lot of levels cause the blonde student looks like the human version of Bart. Plus, he has the same green and golden skateboard. In any case, it deserves 5 star rating.

Above, we have Homer and Bart mimicking the Cherubs of Raphael. He was among the elite 4 painters of the Renaissance time. Both look a lot like the original pair, except they are in Simpson style. In any case, they deserve 5 star rating.

This time we see Cherub Bart alone. He has a sling shot in one of his hands. You know, I forget which painting is the basis for this parody. Oh well...  I guess I don't have all the answers...yet! Oh, well, 5 stars.

The image above is a parody of Leonardo Da Vinci's "The Last Supper". Here, Homer plays the role of Jesus among his fellow drunkard buddies. Unlike the original, these drunkards kept the same sorry air typical of their kind. Only Homer mimicked the mannerism of Jesus. For this witty parody, this Simpson episode gains 5 star rating.

The painting we see above in Mr. Burns mansion is called "Dogs Playing Poker". It is the handy work of a man named Cassius Marcellus Coolidge. Frankly, I had to google the man's name. This painting is even more famous than the artist. Its funny seeing Mr. Burns among those poker faced dogs. In any case, this one deserves 5 star rating.

In this scene, Homer is conversing with the Native he met in the Simpson movie. The odd birds and scenery is an allusion to the visual impossibilities of the mathematician artist called Escher. Visually anything is possible. Through the power of optics and relativity Albert Einstein created the ultimate Doomsday weapon (seriously!). Here Escher, is playing with our optics, showing us the impossible. Picking up on that trend, the Simpson made this parody. I think the original is called " The Park of Science". In any case, the Simpsons version deserves 5 star rating.

I noticed that the Simpsons writers are fascinated with Escher. More than any artist, his work appears again and again in this show. This one is Escher's "The impossible World". It basically shows an infinite staircase.

Here is another version of the same piece. I think this was a Simpson Halloween episode. In any case, both versions are 5 star worthy.

The next  Escher is his "Prosperity Project". I seen reference to this piece in many other shows. Whenever, they wish to show a mind in disarray (or crazy, frankly I lov the word disarray) they make their own version of this piece. If prosperity lies in the "numerous" then this piece is the perfect manifestation of this word. In any case, the Simpson version (which was a presentation) deserves 5 star rating.

This one is "American Gothic" by Grant Woods. This piece is quite infamous. I seen hundreds of reference to this piece. The latest I saw it in the last season of Dexter. This one looks a lot like the original piece (though its style is that of the Simpsons).  Truly, this piece is 5 star worthy.

The next one is a parody to the evolution of man. This one has been reworked hundreds of time. I wonder who was the first person to illustrate the homo sapiens. Eh... whatever, 5 stars rating.

Eh... whatever. Scarface Homer. I guess this is not art per say. I just found it while looking for art so here it is. He has a controller instead of a Gun. Say hello to my 5 star rating!

The next on is from... Eh... nah! I just simply liked this one a lot. So I through I add it here along with the rest of the Simpson art bash. Here we see them in their human forms. Homer and Bart look terrible in their human form. Only Marge, Maggie and Lisa look pretty cute. In any case, this piece deserves 5 star rating.

Here is another Girl with a Pearl Earring Simpson style. This one is more in tune with the original. She has the same frighten expression as Vermeer's Girl. Plus, she has a giant earring. In any case, she gets 5 star rating.

Above, we see another "Scream". This time Lisa is the screaming figure. The colors are more in tune with the original. In any case, she deserves 5 star rating.

This one is a parody of a Loy Lichtenstein painting. He was a pop artist that did jumbo graphic novel pages. Each dot is the size of a live human being. This one is a parody of painting of a sobbing girl. She was sad because her boyfriend spoke grammatical incorrectly. Thus, it was hopeless because she had yet to find her perfect man. In this one, Lisa is crying because its hopeless being a sensitive artist. In any case, she deserves 5 star rating.

This one is from the time when Bart participated in the student exchange program. While ridding inside the motorcycle he passed through a lot of infamous French paintings. This one is Manet's "Luncheon on the Grass". He is the guy who started the whole impressionist movement. In any case, this reference deserves 5 star rating.

Above, we see a Simpson parody of Michelangelo's "The creation of Adam". Here Homer acts as Adam. Marge is Homer's God. Beneath her arm she has Bart. It interesting the fresco (or plaster wall painting) look of the roof. This one truly works pretty well. Anyhow, 5 stars rating for this piece.

If I remember correctly, this lady is called Mindy. She was the hot new co worker of Homer at the nuclear power plant. Mr. Burns added her to the team to meet some corporate standards or something (I forget). Anyhow, when Homer first saw Mindy she transfigured into the love goddess Venus. The way she appeared is an allusion to " The Birth of Venus" by Botticelli. Botticelli was an early Renaissance artist. He was among the first to reintroduce nude goddesses into the picture. In the original, Venus was also ridding a giant shell. She was born from the foam of the ocean waves. Pretty neat, uh? Furthermore, this reference deserves 5 star rating.

This bridge is the handy work of Monet not Manet. I always get both painters confused cause their names are so alike. His style is more in tune with impressionism. Here Bart is ridding over the bridge that appears in Monet's painting. This reference also gains 5 star rating.

Nelson is doing a graffiti of the infamous Cubist painting "Gernica". Gernica is the handy work of Pablo Picasso, the only cubist painter that I like. Nelso painted Lisa and Bart's teachers. In the floor, I can see Skinner and Otto. In any case, this reference deserves 5 star rating.

Here is another Abbey Road album reference. Here we see Homer, Marge, Bart and Lisa crossing this road. 5 stars.

This one is a Simpson satire of Norman Rockwell "Triple Self Portrait". The first portrait is in the mirror, the other ,the painting, and ,lastly, the painter. Its interesting how the Simpson character is painting himself as he used to be. I think I see by the mirror a lil duff beer can. In any case, this piece deserves 5 star rating.

I don't know the title of this painting reference. I think the artist is called Rousseau. This one is also from Bart Simpsons trip to France. 5 stars.

The next one is the Simpson Version of Salvador Dali's "The Passage of Time". Here Homer and Marge are like the two melting clocks. The donut in the corner is being eaten by ants. Anyhow, 5 star rating for this piece.

The next one is a parody of George Seurat pointillism (brush strokes done in dots) painting. I think it was called " A Sunday on la Grande Jatte". They basically replaced all characters of the painting with the Simpson characters. In any case,  this parody deserve 5 star rating.

This one is more of an art reference. Here Mr. Burns is about to be arrested for the theft of a Vermeer painting. Those paintings are now considered museum property. One can no longer own certain paintings after they reach a certain age. At a certain time, they must be sold to museum in order to have them preserved by the hands of trained professionals. Mr. Burns being the vermin he is, stole this fancy painting for his private art collection. In any case, this reference deserves 5 stars rating.

I think this is the last Escher painting. Homer is holding up an impossible object. It is impossible because it only exist on paper. It is impossible for it to exist in the real world. Its funny how Homer said to himself, " This does not look too impossible". In any case, this one deserves 5 star rating.

Above we see Homer Simpson as Leonardo Da Vinci. He is painting the Mona Lisa. Its funny how when he turns around Lisa makes faces. He seems in an ill mood. This parody deserves 5 star rating.

Yay, we are done!! The last one is a reference to a Van Gogh painting. 5 stars. I hope that you had a lot of fun with this blog. If not then I hope this blog bored you to death.
