Philip James de Loutherbourg French Romanticism 1740 – 1812 Paintings Review
Loutherbourg was a famous French painter. He was born in Britain, however he spent most of his time in France. As such, he is considered a French painter. Anyhow, he was known for his elaborate paintings. He also designed sets for the opera. When he was not painting he read books on faith healing and the occult. Yep, he had true romanticism interests.
The first painting features a fight in the Nile. Loutherbourg liked to illustrate a lot of battles. This one is one such battles. In the foreground, we see some navy officers. Some are in rafts, others are in boats. In the background, we see an epic ship battle. One has just exploded. In any case, this romanticism painting deserves 5 stars rating.
This painting is about a rainbow. The people here are just there for show. It is a regular landscape painting. The cloudy sky came out looking petty realistic. This landscape by Loutherbourg deserves 5 stars rating.
This painting is about an Avalanche. The humans are frightened by the accident. They look puny in the face of this natural disaste. The accident is pretty realistic. This cool landscape deserves 5 stars rating.
This is a pretty cool painting. A thunderbolt has struck a nearby tree. Like before, mankind appears powerless before nature. This frightening tunderstorm deserves 5 stars rating.
This painting is pretty cool. It is taken from a scene from Paradise Lost. Here the Archangel is binding Satan to hell. He is using the keys of heaven to bind the demon. The angel is dressed like a Roman legionnaire. In any case, this painting deserves 5 stars rating.
Above, we see another ship battle. It is very similar in kind to the first painting. The scenery is pretty realistic. 5 stars rating for Loutherbourg.
This painting is about the white horse. According to legend, most epic heroes are ridding white horses. As such, here we see the guy ridding a white horse. In any case, this painting deserves 5 stars rating.
Here we have the last painting. It focuses on this ill fated couple in the middle of a flood. The father is in the middle of crying. The mother has just about lost all hope. As for the baby, he seems to be a bit confused. This depressing landscape by Loutherbourg deserves 5 stars rating.
