Farm Aid is a benefit concert in Chicago, Illinois. It started in September 22, 1985. It was designed to help struggling family farmers. The concert came about as a result of Bod Dylan’s comment. He had hoped that some of the money would help farming families who were about to lose their home.
The first concert was held in the University of Illinois. The first concert helped collect $9 million. During the concert farming families came forward to talk about their problems. As a result, Congress enacted the Agricultural Credit Act of 1987. This helped save many families from losing their homes. Even today, Farm Aid works vigorously to save farming families.
The concert includes blues and rock music. Their most recent ventures have been to help the Katrina Victims and the families affected by the 2011 Tornadoes. This year is the 30th Anniversary concert of Farm Aid. Some of the featured artists are Willie Nelson, Neil Young, Jack Johnson and the Blackwood Quartet.
