Mid-Autumn Festival in China
Review by Teresita Blanco
Date: fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month. September 27,
2015
If you happen to be in China, then you should check out the
Mid- Autumn Festival. This holiday features hundreds and thousands of sweet
treats. The treats are cakes, dough shells with cream fillings, nuts and red
beans. These items start appearing a month or so before the celebration.
When the full moon comes, people eat these snacks bellow the
moonlight. People there even climb to the roof to get closer to the moon. This
celebration is also observed in other Asian countries. This is the second most
important holiday in China. It is almost as important as New Years.
Aside from food, there is the dragon dances and hanging
lanterns in the pagodas. The festival is sometimes called the Lantern Festival.
However, it has no relations with the end of Chinese New Year. They also offer incense
to the moon goddess Chang’e. It is quite the interesting celebration.
